How Much Can an AVERAGE Model Expect to Get Paid? (PLEASE READ POST #1 BEFORE POSTING)

from what i'm hearing in china and japan, they would pick a caucasian model over an asian model. maybe that's why these models get so much money in asia. it's a sad thing really because some people over there in asian are obsessed with the caucasian look(bigger eyes, taller nose, cheekbones etc.) and no one is representing the asian look.

i find it discouraging that so many women and men of color aspire to achieve "caucasan-ness" and not celebrating their own ethnic beauty. Still even in the 21st century there is still stigma attached to non-caucasian features. however, being asian and a man of color, i am continously surrounded by images that still project white as a standard of beauty. it's difficult to get away from and takes quite a bit of raised self esteem to think of myself as attractive.

i think asian men and women are extremely attractive for the most part...the way some people like blondes or brunettes...my ex was asian...

and i think the MOST beautiful people are all bi-racial... they are usually so striking and unique looking...very special...i know a lot of people who feel the same way...it's good to have an ethnic look...

I made more when I shot for KMart!!!! Major ad campaign does NOT equal money!!!!!!!!!! She made most of her money for a catalogue.

I veeeeery much agree with that. Doing catalog work or campaigns for mainstream companies pay MUCH better than adverts for designers. I work as a model very, very little here in Minnesota, but when I do work its for companies like Lifetouch and Target. The thing is, I keep a huge percentage of the pay (my booker only takes 10%) so its nice for putting in my bank account in addition to my real, after-school job. For example, I did an advertisement for Metro Transit with about 15 other people in the shot including firefighters:smile:eyebrows:smile: to be put on the back of buses and although I was only there an hour and got to keep my waredrobe, I made $510. Just goes to show it all depends.

One of my freinds went to Japan for modeling and got attacked the 5th day she was there.

She was only 17 at the time! I cant believe her mother let her go.

Poor soul is still afraid to leave her house because of the incedent. :(

I think that is horrible but 17 isn't that young.

I think that is really unfair, having an asian background myself(half filopino and half european). I was wondering if there is a good of a place to start out modelling as japan is for causcasian girls. I have all ready been accessed by japan scouts but they said they already have my look in japan, i dont know what that is supposed to mean....

In Asia, you ratherly see modles in the show, instead they are being recongized by doing massive amount of ad and tv commercial. Seeing a complete clip of local designer is very hard, simply becasue people doesn't care about it, Asia people want Italian designe, Paris big name, and GUCCI, LV, Chanel Monogram is everygreen on the market becasue it is the best way to show off your money. and that's remember, there are tons of people in Aisa who is welling to pay anything that's "import" form fashion capitals.

Modeling doesn't pay much for an Asia model, but most of the Asia Model in Asia is model/actor/singer/host, modeling is just a step for they to get into entertainment, and "background" helps a lot, like a model who has been in business for years and suddently become "the most beautiful women" in her early 30s, this is almost unheard in North America, Why? check out what her dad and mom did for the President.

editorial work is so disappointing some times! i will go to castings and castings and rack up on all of these editorials "I got!" YAY!-- not. then i get sooo dressed up with all this make-up and clothes (not that I'm complaining) and even at odd hours.. and doing a lot can really tire someone..and you're like "ugh! i'm not even getting paid for this!" catalogues are great.. i did 2 shots for a catalogue and got $2500. editorials are nothing basically.. and even small side commercial things like cd covers pay pretty well.

all of you that went to japan when you were like 15 or 17-- what did you all do about school!? i'm so confused. i miss school some times for work but never like a month!

some "commercial campaigns" would really surprise you..
i know pantene pays up to $20,000 for girls.. and I know a girl that did a Dove campaign for $70,000! --these were for contracts i think. and hair products (Redken, John Frida, Pantene, Matrix) they all pay well.. and so does any make-up campaign! that's why it does not matter if models do a lot of commercial cosmetics campaigns, hey they're getting paid!:flower:

most models barely scrape by.. back-up careers are needed! stay in school!

I'm also wondering what the really young girls do for school when they're abroad... I know Heather Marks is in a special school for olympic athletes and such and they have a special program for her to follow.. but what about everyone else?

If they are really busy, there is no way they can keep up. Ali was out of school for one and a 1/2 years and she almost missed out on her chance to graduate with her class. We tried to keep up but it's not possible when you work all the time. Some girls/guys gamble that the payoff will be bigger than the need for education but the chances to hit it big are few and far between.....and then what???

I read an article about Gemma Ward which said she can earn $30,000-40,000 per runway show. So do topmodels, like Gemma and Daria really earn that much? Wow, they are millionaires then!

I absolutely agree, I was scouted in London twice when I was 14 and the second time when I was 16 but I wouldn't have even dreamt about dropping out of school and pursuing it fulltime, especially since I would have had to move. I just began modeling here in Finland. How long did it take everyone here to get their first jobs after starting at a modeling agency?

One of my friends went to Asia for two months a little while ago for modeling while school was still in session. She had all of her homework e-mailed to her. She worked pretty much every single day, yet she still managed to keep up in all of her classes!

Seriously?!? That's a ridiculous amount...

I heard of models getting paid more if they look jershy, but of course not everyone can!
