Do you have another agency besides your mother agency? If your mother agency is your only one its 20%...

I have other agencies, and when I work elsewhere it's usually 40% that's coming off my check as their cut (20/20, mother agency and other agency)

According to New Model Blog,Brazilian fashion show season starts next week and the following prices have been quoted for "Top International Models" to take part in the shows:

Daria W: US $ 150K
Eugenia Volldina: US 90K
Natalia Vodianova: US 90K
Hana S, Erin O'Conner and Elise Crombez:US $70K each
Gemma Ward: US $70K
Louis Pederson: US $30K

There is some doubt that the Brazilians will pay this, but who knows?

I'm a devote follower of the brazilian fashion weeks and I've NEVER seen those models do the catwalk ... they prefer their very won models and the only foreign model I've seen on a show for Brazil was Naomi ... they def. have enough pretty girls who are HUGE stars in the country which would sell more domesticly than any of those foreign girls from the list ...

Now .. why the shock? Belive it or not .. there's A LOT of money in brazilian fashion.

You are totally right, I've never seen any foreign models aside from the usual brazilian models like caroline t. do the runways.

Mother agencies get 10% of the models earnings right?

This was a quote from the New models blog forum and not my own... I believe that was a quote of how much it would cost the designers to use those models. Needless to say...it didn't happen.

I absolutely agree, I was scouted in London twice when I was 14 and the second time when I was 16 but I wouldn't have even dreamt about dropping out of school and pursuing it fulltime, especially since I would have had to move. I just began modeling here in Finland. How long did it take everyone here to get their first jobs after starting at a modeling agency?

I'm interested in modeling too. Since I live in Finland too I'd like to ask you some questions. Which agency are you signed with? And how do you get paid? Is it the same as most of the people say here, pretty crappy wages in the end, or is the situation in Finland better?

People make it out as if models get paid shitloads for doing nothing when infact it's probably one of the worst industries to work in IMO unless you are a top model like Gemma Ward, Daria etc but the possibility of that happening is so so slim.

When I tried out modelling a a year or so ago, seemed really appealing at first when I was getting told of the rates you get paid for doing an editorial, catalog work etc even though the agency do take 20%. Then you add all the expenses like travelling fees, adding photos to the portfolio etc and unless you are getting a lot of work (which is hardly possible for a model starting out), you end up hardly making anything and tired as hell. Just seems really hard to make it as a model and earn a lot.

The asian industry is not so picky though. I have a friend who's a model in Beijing and from the stuff he tells me and sends me, most of the people who models there are so plain, nothing compared to some of the extremely gorgeous and unique people here who are struggling to even get work. I think they prefer the 'caucasian look' in Asia.

ok, it isn't so much the agency rather the jobs the persons getting, and then it really depends. For example the top girl, like Karolina Kurkova, Natalia Vodianova, Gemma Ward and Daria Werbowy have 6 figure day sums for editorial, and get paid millions for campaigns. eg. Gemma got $20 mil for the Obsession Night ads. But then it goes down quite a bit.

For parades in Australia they usually get $300 a show in Sydney, but then the top models get paid A LOT more than that...

Mags like Vogue will generally pay better than others, but it really depends. Once you've got the exposure and a good agency like IMG, Women or DNA (for the girls) you'll get paid a lot more

GEMMA MADE $20 MIL DOLLARS FOR OBSESSION NIGHT?! HOLY CRAP! I THOUGHT SHE HAD MADE LIKE $5 MILLON! THAT IS AN INCREDIBLY HUGE AMOUNT OF MONEY! But Gemma definitely deserves it!
