How Much Sleep Do You Get?

It is so unhealthy not to get enough sleep. You need deep sleep to properly form collagen and elastin.

I suffered from insomnia so badly that I had to see a sleep specialist. What a wonderful doctor! They help you eliminate bad sleep habits you don't even realize you have, and have lots of tricks (including meds) up their sleepy sleeves.

The number one reason they hate sleep deprivation-- it causes more auto accidents than you would imagine, especially in the AM.

I usually get 5-6 hours. 8-9 on weekends.

Through high school (which was many years ago) I'm pretty sure I was only sleeping 3-4 hours a night :ninja:

I have the really nasty habit of going to bed REALLY late (it's 3.40am right now) and waking up REALLY late (like 1pm). How do I readjust? It's seriously affecting my professional life.

I have that habit too. It's 1.50 am here, but I will sometimes stay up until past 3am. I'm such a night owl. Ever since I was young I hated sleeping - I always felt that the night hours were 'mine' (as a sort of rebellion to my parents/home situtation, I guess) and I wanted to use those hours, not waste them.

And it's stuck! The thought of sleeping seems like such a waste to me, even though I wake up EXHAUSTED and look like cr*p. I have pretty bad bags under my eyes all the time.

To make it worse, I don't ever get a GOOD sleep. I have restless leg syndrome (which drives me crazy), really vivid dreams, and I get night sweats every single night (so I wake up mid-sleep freezing). I never wake up feeling refreshed (obvs because I don't get enough hours of sleep!) but it ironically puts me off sleeping.

The problem at night is the computer/internet and the TV. Those are my late-night vices...particulary the internet now that it's fashion week and I want to keep up to date.

Same here. I always sleep pass 3 and wake up in the middle of the day. Sometimes I do all nighters so I can sleep early aka crash the next day and hopefully readjust my sleeping pattern, never happens. I have a hard time falling asleep and when I need to sleep or feel sleepy like now, I have an exam in the morning and I'm cramming (partly my fault). Basically my sleeping pattern is horrible I hardly get 8-10 hours of sleep, I have horrible dark circles and its taking a toll on my body. Like some one pointed out sleeping is good for collagen and elasticity if your skin, which I agree. I've noticed I have deep set lines around my eyes already and I'm fairly young.

^^ word for word me (except the restless leg syndrome). I love to sleep and usually sleep well, sometimes I dream but it's fine and still I don't end up sleeping much because just like *Bianca* mentioned - nights are my part of the day so to speak and I'm always so productive during that time that I can't resist staying up and doing something. I really should start sleeping more though, sometimes I feel like my poor brain cells are just dying away from the lack of it. -_-

I normally get about 4 hours of sleep. I know it's bad. I life a very risky and unhealthy life, seriously, but I just never manage to get out of my many, many bad habits (one of which is, of course, my lack of sleep). I'm not an insomniac. I suppose I'm just busy. Take tonight, for example. It's not 3.32am and I'm lying in bed and I'm not asleep. I'm on my laptop. I'm not tired. This is partly because I've been drinking very strong, very black coffee all evening, perhaps, or perhaps there is another reason entirely for my need to sleep so little. The weird thing is, when I sleep, I like it; I always have nice dreams and when I wake up I feel refreshed. So there's nothing actually holding me back... and yet and I don't sleep much at all. I'll probably go to bed at about 4/4.15 and then I'll be up at 8. I swear one day all of those missed hours of sleep will just hit me all at once and I'll pass out from exhaustion or something. Oh dear...

I sleep a lot... Like I can sleep 15 hours without problem if the room is dark and no one wakes me

But this summer when I cut all carbohydrates and sugars out of my diet - I started waking up after exactly 7 hours (maximum 7 hours 30 min) of sleep every day and I felt so rested. Of course, the second I started eating carbs again I am now back to my minimum 11 hours of sleep ...
