I saw the covers on display in a store today and the effect was so underwhelming, they all blended into the background, even Ondria's.

I don't know, I'd get this just for the Jacob K. story, because that Undercover show + collection makes my knees weak... and there's that shot with the prints, which are so gorgeous.

Imagery like this keeps me convinced they still got it at i-D... they still have talented teams, still enough freedom without being too compromised on what's got to sale... but it'd be too naive to overlook not just the financial demands these days and how aggressive they seem to have become to the point they squeeze out any potential for risks in case that might jeopardize their existence (and we've seen just how many magazine have folded in the last decade) but also the cultural demands, which are getting more fickle each time and it's hard to establish even just a mood and be able to maintain it for a while. In a way they're still doing what they were doing back in the day, sort of divided between delivering exclusively temporary, eye roll-inducing, trendy stories (which are fun to look at in hindsight) and still leaving room for the timeless, more thoughtful productions... and both are still featured in the magazine and happily coexist, problem is when some magazines just kick one out in favor of the other... or, neglect times and become totally pretentious (and still so temporal just by doing that!).

Jourdan looks beautiful but seriously... when will the 'selfie' pictures end??? That is one trend that needs to go away, bit ticked off that it's even invaded the fashion world. It doesn't really look like a magazine cover, maybe an editorial picture but not a cover photo.
