Interview September 2015 : The #Me Issue

^ yeah, I got that after checking his IG.
Anyway, is this some lame attempt at mockering celebrities and their leaked pics? when I saw these I thought of Jen Lawrence...

My thoughts exactly, it looks like the shots from The Fappening.

I really hope this is the nail in the coffin for fashion magazines' annoying little tryst with pop stars. Honestly, it wasn't this bad with actresses in the 00's. You cannot even say that fashion/pop culture was more conservative then, because when was Meisel's dogging edit published/Paris' sex tape leaked? I just dont recall seeing Gwyneth Paltrow's t*ts and **** at every turn. There are other ways of making a statement without resorting to this type of tackiness. Sick of the lot of them, wish they'd just go away!

Ok miley, we got it by now, you are the epitome of white trash. Now what else is going on?

Madonna thinks she's 16. Adorable and creepy at the same time.

Yikes Miley. Yikes. What would your kids think? Yikes.

Is there a Zayn editorial or non? I think there has to be because they're the main stars

I don't see anything groundbreaking in Miley's ed. Is just that Interview wanted some publicity and they know how narrow-minded society in 2015 is. So they got it.

Everything is so boring I might fall asleep. Nothing genuine at all... ZzzzZZzzZZZ

are all instagram pictures? some like Vanessa Axente or Fei Fei looks made for the magazine specifically

many of the photos are obviously professional shots, not even disguised as iphone pics or self potraits. they couldn't even fully commit to their tired theme, lmao

I don't think it is meant to be selfies throughout, I think it is Me by Me as in however you want yourself shot. For example Hanne's was by Dylan Forsberg, Binx's was by Andrew Mukamal etc

Come on, I'm not a big Miley fan but her shots are no more p*rn*gr*ph*c than any other fashion magazine..is there a big difference between her ed:

interviewmagazine.com

and say Joan Smalls' ed this month for Lui, which is pretty standard?

fashiondesain.com

I think there's a pretty big double standard when it comes to which girls' work is p*rn*gr*ph*c..what makes a shot not portographic, good lighting and expensive accessories?

They're just boobs guys. The female body is amazing and beautiful and there is nothing wrong with flaunting it.

^^Thanks for bringing up this comparison. In fact, I quite find that Joan's editorial to be the one of the two that actually feels so dated, sexless, and sad. It's such a tired cliche of sexy at this point. And while Miley's may be more "vulgar" in a certain way, it's the vulgarity that is clearly ruffling feathers. Joan's editorial is clearly riffing on tried and true fashion references of Guy Bourdin and Helmut Newton, who I'm sure at their prime ruffled a fair amount of feathers themselves, but their visual vocabulary has become so much a part of our visual culture at this point that when photographers reference their style, the real biting sex appeal of the originals is often missing, as in Joan's editorial, and all you're left with is a glossy, useless fashion image.

I don't hate this issue at all, nor do I find it to be "stooping" to any low level. Fashion magazines need to be trying new things, need to be on the pulse, need to appeal to masses, and I don't think it's terrible that Interview is trying it out with this issue. Whether or not they always work or are successful...at least they are trying something new. Way more applaudable to me than what we see in Joan Small's editorial which is so stale, I can't stand it.

^^^Really?! I actually don't believe you don't see a difference between these two shoots. And if you don't, I can't really help you.

I don't even care about Miley's boobs, it's not about that. It's about degrading herself to licking a dirty carpet to get attention. There is nothing authentic about it. I'm pretty sure she's not licking a carpet on her free time. In fact, she said many times she is very normal in her everyday life, watching movies with friends, so maybe show me that. Or show her sucking on a bong/penis.

Or maybe do a beauty shoot of her vagina, we've seen everything else many times over.

Joan ,on the other hand, looks powerful and in control. It's a celebration of the nude female body at it's finest. She has an exceptional body and it needs to be shown. Also, she's a model and can and does emote to the camera. And yes, lighting and photography make a huge difference.

It's tasteful. Miley's is beyond tasteless.

It's absolutely not about boobs.

Of course there is absolutely no difference
Miley is looking disgusting as usual. I wonder if she will be done with trolling by 30. Girl needs to go to college or smth, she is clearly bored.

The only covers that are not as hideous are JLo's and Victoria's

Why do we label Miley's pics as attention seeking and p*rn*gr*ph*c and Joan's (probably any model's photoshoped naked pics for that matter) as a powerful woman in control? is Miley degrading herself by licking a carpet? who gets to decide? I don't enjoy this editorial but she and Mert are telling a story after all, it's raw and real and sexual imo.

^(loss editing time)
I also think there's a terrible bias between naked retouched pics and raw ones, the retouched to death and fake images are always tasteful while natural ones are not, I remember Lara Stone by Teller unretouched nude pics for System and people complaining about how ugly they were and such.

^I get what you're saying, but I'm not one of those people. I absolutely adored this shoot of Lara, this was raw and real.

I understand your questioning of biased thinking but I can't think of one positive aspect of Miley's photos.

Is it art? Is it pushing the envelope?
Is it showing girls that if they like to lick carpets it's ok?

Whilst aesthetically I find Joan's shoot to be beautiful and well done, Miley's shoot and cover feels more 'of the moment' (I'm rolling my eyes at myself too at using that phrase) to me.

Just that it has a concept beyond 'beautiful woman pose here look beautiful' wins me over, frankly, much as I love admiring models posing and looking beautiful.

It just has more energy and life, feels like it's engaging in culture right now, or at least trying to.

The nudity and how she poses are irrelevant, taste wise, in this shoot. Like others above have said, it's vulgar. But that's the point.

Miley's photos look like Snapchats she would send to gross men.

Joan's photos look like something out of a fashion magazine.

Oh Puhleeze. Lui is just high end p*rn, for men who love supermodels.
Every stylized image in that magazine is photoshopped to death, and is devoid of all reality.

Miley may be trashy, but her rawness is real, and refreshing.
