Industrial Design

thanks for the links and pic lux! i'm going to save them and forward them to my friends.. i'm quite fond of the piece you posted...it looks like a really subtle touch..but i love the fasteners--it makes you think of the different combinations you can come up with mixing and matching pieces. you should check out my friends stuff..very simple, purist design philosophy...i'm sure you'd like the droog stuff as well.

Your friend is very talented. The lights are great...the cloud stool and table too! Thanks for the link. Also, I love Droog. I have three books about their collaborations and have been following the collective very closely. I like the Ineke stuff you posted as well -- her work is so playful...yet not too heavy-handed, which is great.

I'm happy you appreciate the subtle beauty of the B-Jug, I really hope to own it one day :flower:

I don't think anyone has mentioned it yet... but Moss in Soho has some really cool stuff. Lots of Alessi, Phillipe Starke and various other designer pieces. Really cool stuff, and set up very much like the functional art section of MoMA.

thanks chinor1z...i went to the moma store once. its definately important to see these things in actuality-texture/ scale to oneself--basically just interacting with the piece. please post any more suggestions if you can...

also i'd recommend for everyone to check out this interview with halle jongerius from the link lux originally posted...
its under "working methods"

excerpt from the hella interview...

LOUISE "You’re presumably familiar with the traditional Chinese and Japanese practice of repairing broken pottery with gold laquer. Throwing things away isn’t an option, and the defect becomes a thing of beauty in its own right."

it reminds me how martha stewart is so popular...she constantly picks up on customs, traditions we no longer remember and recycles them into the same form or a more contemporary form...

Check out www.kennethcobonpue.com - He's a very good furniture designer. I love the materials he uses and the creativity as well as the history of his designs. The only downside is the price.

me neither, have you see the minature eames chairs? i think they still sell them at the moma store and are ungodly expensive...i wouldn't mind the eames lounge.

thanks for the link arturo. i wished i would have seen more of this bamboo pieces...it would be interesting to see how he produced this stuff, and how much they cost...

He has a link on his site where he shows the stores in the US - prices were around $3000 - $4000.

I posted about it in the interior decor thread, I love that store. It's like a funky playground.

Yes, that is industrial design...very much so.

I like the first pic, although that style has been done millions of times....but the second is too large and overwhelming.

Please do. I've always believed industrial design and architecture go hand-in-hand - along with fashion, interior design, and so on.

:flower: this is my school, people either hate it or love it
the view from above is amazing and at night there are
spot lights which makes the whole building glow
but the truth is, the interior space is horrible,
the only word to describe it is "awkward"
