hell yes, that vest is purrrfect!:meow: Why can I never find cool things like that at A.P.C.?

and softie, are those JEANS?! You look fabulous in them! :woot: Sheesh, and all this talk of hips and bums...you are full of you know what.

I think you are probably right that vintage is the way to go...YSL would be fantastic, ideal, really. To be honest though, I have been looking for a good vest for awhile now, to no avail. :ermm: Must persist, I s'pose...

can I justify it...:innocent:...

:D

*OR- i could buy the chloe skirt off you and then YOU can get the IM??>..
:woot:...

So weird...I was just coming back here to tell you that the Chloe skirt is on Yoox in your size....but it's sold out all of the sudden. Did someone here get it, I wonder? :shifty:

bah!@%$##

SOMEone got there..
but it wasn't me......

boohoo!!!...

*wails*...

*whatever laika- :P
yes they are GREY jeans...but they are so low waisted and they are ALWAYS sliding down and i am constantly having to yank them back up again...
(it's VERY hard to look cute while simultaneously yanking up your pants!...)
...
if i could just get them in a high waisted version i would shut up and be happy...
:P..but they are trash and vaudeville...so VERY low...
:ninja:..

***laika-
this vest is the perfect example of what i was saying to you in my pm...
i just buy stuff because it's good when i see it....
not because i know exactly what i am going to do with it right away..
i am sort of a gatherer and collector when it comes to shopping..

*lucky saw me doing it....so it probably makes sense to her...not really looking for anything special...just surveying everything and trying to pull out the best bits wherever i find them....

so i had this vest since ---hmmm...i guess i got it a year ago...
i had no idea what i would do with it..
i mean- it's silver lurex with brown trim...what do you do with that, right?...
but it was just too cool to let pass
and then i got the raw silk top at topshop last month and voila...it all came together...
*the shoes are some dries platform ballet flats that i also had for even longer i think...
i knew they were cool...
i just couldn't get the balance right with them and wasn't happy with them until...
whammo- they were suddenly the most perfect shoe in the world at that very moment...
:woot:...

wearing stuff from different seasons also insures that i will never be a walking fashion victim sucked in by all the latest trends from head to toe...

:P

haha...yeah..we are so OT...:P

great skirts though babe!...
:woot:...

hebden...
YOU post a pic!!!...
we want to see how the dress looks different on YOU!!!
:woot:...

As they say, be careful what you ask for... :P Here's the dress on someone who's probably a little too tall for it. It's strange...I love the dress but I'm wondering if it's a little "leggy" on me...or maybe I'm just paranoid...anyway, here it is with a J Crew sweater underneath...

IMdress.jpg

hebden, not too tall at all. in fact, with those dark tights its hard to see where the dress ends and your leg begins. isn't that the purpose of dark dress/dark tight's...you pull it off magnificently.

you could even go with a narrow jean and tall boot with those gorgeous gams!!

I just found this thread and I must say that everyone who's posted pics here all look absolutely amazing. Do any of you know where I can get IM stuff in New York? I know some stores carry them online but I'd much rather go to a store and try on the clothes:smile:

Hebden, you look wonderful! I think the short length is great one you, with those lovely long legs, and I agree with lucky, that a tall boot could be lovely.

chocolatestain, there are a few stores, but the selection is small and pretty bad. :ninja: I've never bought any IM in New York actually, except some Etoile when Anthropologie carried it for like, a minute.

Jumelle and Bird in Brooklyn, Dernier Cri in the Meatpacking district, and Steven Alan downtown all have a few things. Judging from the online pics, I would guess that the Brooklyn stores have the best selection.

I always wonder why Ludivine doesn't carry it, since it's owned by a French woman, and since they carry most of the other popular French labels--Vanesssa Bruno, Claudie Pierlot, etc.

I definitely see what you mean, and I think it's great to be able to shop that way, especially if you have an extensive wardrobe already, and don't have to worry too much about acquiring basic things.

I always feel like I am missing the "just right" pieces to make some stuff work...like I would love some booties to wear with my shorter skirts this season, but I bought tall boots instead, because I know they are more versatile for me. :ermm:

But I guess it just takes time to recognize and acquire the foundations of your style....not necessarily basic things, but things you love so much that you know you will find a way to wear them....and i'm sure it doesn't hurt to have professional styling skills either. :P

Anyway, I am OT.

lucky, those skirts are great!

Found a vest that is rather similar to an Isabel Marant one I saw in Paris.

Cotton and lurex, Les Prairies de Paris, from the yoox sample sale. It's not absolutely perfect but I think it will be fun to play with, and it might work with another, navy t-shirt I got from Dries. :D

yes- omg i totally saw that and i didn't even think about it with that but you're right..
it's great...you'll totally get lot's of use out of that...

hebden!!!...

...
that looks awesome...
i think that is pretty much exactly where i would shorten it to...
and it looks great with the flats...very sweet...
i like the whole look...def one of my favourites of the things you have ever posted...
...

i do think i would wind up putting a tall boot with it myself...
just so i don't feel so 'naked'.......

i am actually in the process of shortening two more dresses to about that length...
:P

*damn...laika- i just want to say again how much i love that vest!!!...:woot:

laika, that vest is swell...love the open knit. did you see the IM navy top that Impulse just posted recently?

also I am so drawn to this long marant linen sweater with this Crispin & Basilia cashmere and wool vest. I need more money...

yes, shopping with softie is a blast, she's got an amazing eye and is a smooth operator B). I still think about what a great time I had. :flower: must conquer Brooklyn next.

...you are too funny lucky......

and you are an enabler...:judge:...
*oh- don't you want to try that on...come on..it's fun..:innocent:...

darn it...
that top is cute as heck!...
it's like that dress....

which i still cannot believe is the same dress and such different lengths on hebden and tourist......
i keep looking and looking thinking it must be different...but it's not...

heb--how tall are you missy???
:D

heehee... I was going to say smooth shopper but I loved how you operate so it seemed fitting.

I am on the phone buying the vest, because you all got me started on the vest thing...and I wear riding vests all the time just never thought about it them as streetwear, but when I saw it over the long IM top I loved how they styled it...and my bday is coming up.

done deal, got the vest and the long IM sweater in the picture under it.

luckyme - very nice purchases! I only just heard about Impulse (maybe on this thread) but the knowledge could be a dangerous thing...

softgrey - I'm 5'11"...hence the concerns about excessive quantities of leg...when I tried the dress on I was wearing jeans so I didn't get the whole "vast wasteland of hosiery" effect...

luckyme, laika, and softgrey - thank you for the kind words...and the boot suggestion...the one pair of tall boots I have aren't right with this dress so it looks like it's shopping time :woot:...

lucky, I have not even seen your wardrobe....and yet I am blinded by thought of its splendour. :glare:

hebden, I wonder if the corso como boots that softie got wouldn't work for you...i tried them on and they are very, very good...especially on a tall person, I should think.

That first navy top from Impulse...it's nice, but absolutely enormous in person. I think one would have to be quite tall to pull it off....like 5'11, maybe? :innocent:

:P

Very IN-teresting...softgrey, is there a picture of those boots posted anywhere on TFS?

laika, I think I know why I wasn't visiting this thread very often...it's a dangerous place . However the navy top looks similar enough to the dress where I can stay away from it and avert financial disaster...at least that's my story for now...

heb
here's the link to where i posted the boots...
mine are not shiny though....
it explains in the post...

they really are super great...i'm very happy with the purchase...
i don't know how i feel about then with the dress ...
:ermm:...

but they would clearly be different on you given your height...

**so is that why you wear flats so much......?

:P

lucky...why don't you start some sort of thread about riding apparel...
or things that can go from horseback to the street...

full gallop - riding gear?...
