He might have started his label in 2012, which is 8 years to me, but he did not really surface to the public attention before 2014, at least.
And, numbers aside, I was thinking about the career trajectory of people like Rick or Dries (well, that was another era, you might say), who have a much more substantial creative weight, and yet they still don't have but very niche accessories or perfume business...compare them to SPJ, and you get what I mean.
Everything is rushed these days and the fact the you bring up the case of Mr Wang makes yet another example of someone who killed himself and his business under the weight of undeserved hype.
Exactly! There is absolutely no way it has been 10 years, which should mean he started in 2009 or even earlier, when he was in the first year of fashion school or somewhere around that time right when he joined school ( because he didn't stay long in school ). This is just another PR tactic like branding himself as " Rei Kawakubo's Protegee " when all he did was be a sales staff at the store. I am in no way belittling what he has achieved but lets call a spade a spade.
Around 2011 when I was studying in Paris he was working at the CDG store. When I finished school and started my internship in 2012 is when his first collection came out and his article came in 'A Nous Paris" and he suddenly shot into fame. He did receive fame very quickly and to think otherwise is incorrect. Jacquemus and AMI ( who won ANDAM around then ) suddenly became the poster children of Made in France young brands and quickly became mainstream. His shot to fame was quick especially while considering the fact that Paris is where all the big brands showcase and rarely any new/young brands get a foot in unlike London or NY ( to a lesser extent ) fashion weeks.
