Jacquemus F/W 2023.24 Versailles

The show is SH*T whatever. It’s beyond being a limited designer. It’s literally just poor in physical quality.

But the d*ckriding online frustrates me! People fawning online over these guests in poorly-constructed, ill-fitting, barely-clothes that this abomination of a brand put them in!

we all know that he wouldn't dare trade his extravagant shows and campaigns for a stronger atelier and higher quality product development.

If he does, the fashion crowd will banish him to "The Land of Dusty, Crusty Designers who Dress Dusty, Crusty Women" in the space of two seasons.
He can do it gradually, he actually needs to do it for his own survival. Hype and being trendy are the only elements this is founded upon and the people that fuel that are aging, like everybody else, and you can't really import hype and trend into the next generation (as in, younger than gen z) because every generation is by default skeptical and even cynical about the interests of the previous one, so this stage of success he's enjoying, if I was him, I'd be using it to strengthen my label in every aspect so I can make it to, what, 2030, with dignity. But yeah, fame, hanging out with pop stars, the big productions and 'top of the world' hype will most likely get in the way and he'll continue to follow the Alexander Wang recipe and subsequently encounter the same 'has-been' trap Alexander can't now get out of.

For me Jacquemus is the definition of a charming faker.
Another proof that his loyal fanboys and fangirls still worship him after this trainwreck of a collection.

He's deliberately dazzle the public since years in order to achieve one or more goals. Be it simply covering up his own incompetence as a designer to gain recognition, to make one's work easier, to impress other people by looks and lifestyle, out of sheer greed or just because you are able too.
And your customers are too stupid or superficial to see behind this sheme.

Maybe this collection could be a turning point because it makes his lacking of creating something beautiful with substance so obvious. He clearly has fallen out of time. his personal maturity or his professional skills have been stagnating for a long time. But he can't admit that to himself. Because the public praise outside of this forum is still nerve-racking loud.

It draws comparisons with biology. In the event of a crisis, many organisms will be able to encapsulate themselves and thus survive entire ice ages. Some eventually lose interest in following Mother Nature's constant changes. They just stay in their capsule. The same goes for Jacquemus. He doesn't admit to himself either that the bulkheads have long been closed and that he hasn't developed further. And he promoted himself and his brand in a corner of amateurism.

^ exactly.. my memory might be off as it's been over 10 years already but didn't he initially basically let into his shows (like that one in the swimming pool) a lot of the people who use to wander outside shows dressed like parrots, hoping to get snapped by a streetstyle photographer? at least in that category, he validated the people who were dying to hype whoever hyped them in return, right as instagram was gaining speed. There are a lot of elements at play (including yes good looks, which shouldn't be a surprise to anyone) but he's definitely benefitted, early on, from the influencer phenomenon.

Is Simon Porte Jacquemus like a ̶s̶u̶g̶a̶r̶ ̶b̶a̶b̶y̶ nepo-baby or something? How did he came so far?
He worked in retail for CDG but I don’t think it helped…
What changed for him was the stunt he did during the Vogue Paris Night Out. I think it’s there that he caught the attention of Loic Prigent and Mlle Agnès.
I discovered him through watching their « Habille(e)s Pour… ».

Tbh, he was refreshing. He was a good story teller already and something felt very organic about his personality and his fashion. At the time he had no money and all his clothes were made of cotton and boiled wool. I think I remember his first website…
His friends like Jeanne Damas at the time got into the scene at the same time too.

As @youthinasia said, right person at the right place, at the right time. And his collections showed an interesting evolution. His early stuff was very « Femme-Enfant » and then it grew. He was clever with simplifying his approach and switch. His story telling became linked to his fashion all of a sudden. You don’t get the « south » in his early shows…

The show video for those who desire to torture themselves:

FYI: It takes 6 minutes and three music changes for the opening model to make it to the end of the runway.

The music is great though…

^^^ LOL Again with his “looks”. ...I must have the highest standards— or some sort of untapped dysmorphia to physical looks in general, but his “looks” are hardly exceptionally handsome, let alone worthy of launching a thousand ships, where people are so magically drawn to him to elevate him to the current status of his brand.

His looks are on the same level as his fashions.

I would agree but...ouch!

^^ he's not my type, and clearly not yours but he's conventionally good-looking and falls in that family of good-looking gay men fashion can't seem to get enough of (which someone like Manu Rios appears to be a part of, unknown talent but invited to every event). I mean.. you just know this would've never grown to the extent it did had he looked like Alber or Kim Jones.

LOL He’s not unattractive by any means. Just so average-looking (for ghey's standards)… And yet the worldwwide thirst for him is so sensational on the level of someone who is vastly talented, and matched with (above) average looks and pure charisma, and a good body never hurts, would be understandably thrust into catastrophic heights of hype. But here is this average-lookign ghey, with average creative talent (if I’m being generous), and from his SM, such an arrogance about him, and the children still thirst for him. He looks exactly like this nice man who owns a toy store in Ohio, and frankly I’m more attracted to the overweight, soft-spoken corn-fed Midwesterner than him.

(BTW, hilarious how every new offering of his elicits such passionate reactions LOL What are people expecting from this glorified Sheinster…??? If he doesn’t go by the way of Alexander Wang, then he’ll likely license out his name to big box conglomerates, because fortune and the glamorous lifestyle of the rich and 15min of famous is clearly more important to him than anything else— and the “designing” component is just a by-product of a means to that end.)

^ not the chubby Midwesterner! lol.

Hm I saw someone CRYING at yesterday's show. Some kind of influencer (can't seem to find him now but I WILL find him!).

Idk Phuel I think he's pretty spot on in what the average gay considers attractive these days. Easily digestible. Someone that's a bit above mid, sun-kissed, a little bit rugged-ish, body hair, done. I think it's because that type of person seems somewhat "attainable"
