David Sylvian is pretty good. I've never heard Japan before. It's weird, someone once asked me if my music was influenced by these two artists. And that was before I had even heard David Sylvian.
japan is an importnat uk rock band to know from late 70s/early 80s.
kind of like roxy music gone 1 more step progressive & world with asian influences.
visions of china is great...
they had a bunch of hits...
and theres another hit I cant remeber that junior did an awesome dance mix of...
sylvians solo work is worth investigating,
he goes almost fusion with jazzy & world & B asian influences- very ambitious & amazing musicianship.
For the younger kids among us, Sylvian also recently recorded a song called "The Messenger" with Blonde Redhead. Lovely, lovely song.
Anyway, I wholeheartedly second the recommendation for anything by Sylvian or Japan, and especially for Brilliant Trees. One fo my all-time favourite albums, that.
