Jean Paul Gaultier HC F/W 08.09 Paris

^^I'm with Spike...I'm so sad, because Gaultier couture was my favorite couture for quite some time...he hadn't made one misstep in YEARS. I mean, the last couture collection of his I didn't like that much was four years ago (FW 04). His couture was so impeccable, chic, sophisticated, fantastical...just perfection.

This is hard to like. Neon is not attractive, the cages are way too much, the hair is ridiculous. ...I'm so disappointed. Gaultier!?! What happened!?!

For someone who knows color so well, this collection doesn't demonstrate that at all.

nonsense, I understand that you don't like the clothes or the presentation. but please don't say that this collection doesn't demonstrate a certain knowledge of colour. I think this collection has been perfectly planned by colour, though it's a great mix. :flower:

Why shouldn't I say that??? I fully stand by my opinion that this collection does nothing to show his expertise with combining and using colors. To me, a talent for color means that you not only use a sophisticated palette, but mix very unexpected colors together for a beautiful effect.

This is a bunch of splashy fluorescents mixed in very unflattering combinations that ultimately work to cheapen the details, regardless of how exquisite the details might be. Like I said in my very first post, this looks like an amped up Jeremy Scott collection, and the color palette has a lot to do with that.

This is my opinion, it certainly isn't nonsense.

I think this collection fits perfectly with your criteria about somebody who has a talent for colour. I don't see any unflattering combinations, can you give me a concrete example of that?

One example that comes to mind is that black dress on Jourdan Dunn with the neon green and blue streaks down the side. The hot pink, the bright traffic cone orange, the lime green....I think those colors are cheap looking, unflattering and not even particularly interesting.

I'm not sure why you're so bothered by the fact that I think the colors are bad and don't look anywhere near as chic as what I have come to expect from him.

Some examples of what I think make this collection bad color-wise.

I'm just SO disappointed...I feel as though my couture experience has been totally ruined because of this show.:cry::cry:

I can see many things McQueen have used in his last shows.

It's a cute, interesting and flamboyant show, but I'm not into this style.

i really don't know what to think about this. half of it looks like it belongs to RTW, and then there's the crazy stuff. i'm rather disappointed. i loved his mermaid collection last season and the artsy one previously.

seeing that video just seals the deal for me. this is total old skool jpg fierceosity. swoon!!

the more i look at it, the more i love it. never thought i'd like a collection with such strong colors. and the bridal look... unbelievable. gaultier you're my hero:heart:

Thanks Emilia for the HQ! :flower: Some of the more eccentric peices are pretty spiffy, the hair on some of the models' heads (e.g. Coco's) is really fantastically shaped! Nice contrast of colours of the runway and the clothes- brings more focus to the clothes more than anything else, sometimes having bright clothes and even brighter runways just makes it all too noisy and eyesore-ish.

very very interesting, but the first lace dress is looks like prada, and the last coat looks like cavalli

These were my first thoughts too:P

I must say, I really like it! I always look forward to his HC collections :heart:

well....did you ever think that maybe he could be making fun of miuccia?
she made that doily lace look hideous and very mormon. jpg took it and made it beautiful and something that a woman might actually want to buy.
