what a coincidence, i was watching the videoclip they shot for "so real"
(i want his red bike! ) when i discovered this thread.

yeah, let's all say how much we love him. no, honestly, he was gorgeous.
he had the most incredible voice and some of the most unforgettable songs.

i was going to make one of him..he was just amazing. i miss him. his music makes me feel safe. 'forget her' is heartbreaking. sorry for the short sentences..he means alot to me. you should get 'dream brother' its very interesting, but so sad. i can't recall how many times i have cried about him.

I've read Dream Brother, I love that book. He had such a unique and enchanting personality. There really is no artist like him, before or after.
It's so sad, the circumstances of his death. I like listening to live tracks, and tracks not on Grace my favourites are Vancouver and New Years Prayer.
Such an amazing voice and musician.

BTW, I need this question settled once and for all - who wrote "Hallelujah"? - Leonard Cohen or him? I'm pretty sure it was Leonard, but I don't have "official" sources...

^ You should download Grace, Hallelujah and Lover You Should've Come Over. Heck just buy all his albums, they're worth it.

Cohen wrote Hallelujah but in Buckley's version he added some of his own verses.

Love his music.

you are right, cohen wrote hallelujah; he is always named in the credits of buckley's CDs as writer of the song. but as tinuviel said, buckley changed some verses.

you could put him in the leonard cohen/tom waits/nick cave category but i think his voice was much more skilled, he was more of a singer than a teller. maybe add rufus wainwright or someone with a classical vocal training to the mix. then it gets a bit closer to jeff buckley..

i really recommend "live at sin-é" when you are through with his albums.

leonard wrote it..but didn't jeff use the alternate version of hallelujah that john cale did on 'im your fan'? i didnt know he added his own verses in. 'vancouver' is always stuck in my head...i love sketches but its also very depressing at the same time. i think 'morning theft' and 'opened once' are so gorgeous..some of his best songs. has anyone heard michael tighe's band the a'm? i wonder what they are like. i am keen to hear tim buckley also. apparently 'skyblue skin' by jeff is really good (of course) but its still in the vaults jeff looked so beautiful in the video for 'forget her'. arrgggh 'time takes care of the wounds or so i can believe' i wish he was here

Jeff Buckley was a genious. Good singer, bad swimmer I love him! Any song can touch you as long as he sings it. "Grace" is one of my favorite cd's ever. I also love "Scetches (For my sweetheart the drunk)", I agree that it's a much more depressing album. He was so beautiful

Tim Buckley, his father is also worth listening to. But their music is actually not very similiar. Hallucinations and I never asked to be your mountain ( I think this one is about Jeff) are some of his greatest songs

The boy with the thron in his side, a The Smiths cover is another one of those perfect Jeff Buckley moments that words cant describe. Its probably up there together with I shall be released (Bob Dylan cover) and Hallelujah as the best covers of all time performed by anyone.

faust, i would start with grabbing Grace as its not as complex as Sketches (For My Sweetheart the Drunk) and go from there.

jeff said that on the dvd of grace legacy edition. which by the way is so sad..i cry everytime i watch it. especially at the end when hes walking out of the cafe and talking about his music

Jeff is amazing. I was lucky enough to meet him when I was five... I live in SE London and my mum accompanied him for a concert Elvis Costello was a part of too at the festival hall. So they both came over (!) and rehearsed with my mum. I love hearing her stories about him, he was so adorable and I just wish he was still alive. I can't believe he'd be almost 40 now!

I agree Strawberry!! I have his album ''Grace'' and it's absolutley amazing!!
Every single song is incredible and his angelic voice... sighh....
