Jonathan Anderson - Designer, Creative Director of J.W. Anderson & Loewe

Do you guys think Jonathan gonna keep Rachele Regini's, Maria Grazia daughter, within the company?
She is currently working as Dior cultural advisor, position that was deliberately created to get her in the company and work with her mother...LOL
She's probably leaving with her mother.

No. The new CDs always push for their crowd to work inside with them

The only problem with Jonathan is that he is a very conceptual and avant garde designer in a way that could be a disaster at a brand like Dior that is associated with a kind of timeless and classic elegance. Also he has never done Haute Couture before. Let's not forget Maria Grazia had years of experience working with Couture at Valentino before she was appointed at Dior.

I predict he will be a hit with the fashion crowd and the press, but he will flop commercially. His ideas are too challenging for the typical Dior customer.
I think he is going to be a success.
Dior will be part of the fashion conversation and people will buy it.
Conceptualism is not an issue if it’s backed up by a real desirable product.

And from his tenure at Loewe, we can say that he knows one or two things about desirable product. I also think that his versatility will be an asset for Dior.

For me, his challenge will be Haute Couture. Because Couture for some houses is not just a marketing exercise and they are making money, dressing clients, conceptualism can be a trap. Clients wants the runway look and Couture is the land of total creative freedom and expression so you have to find a good balance.

I think about all those crazy Dior by Galliano shows. When we discovered that the crazy ideas on the runway only translated to a small detail for the clients, it was a bit of a letdown.

I am getting HUGE Raf Simons 2.0 vibes from this appointment honestly, like getting burnt out a la Riccardo Tisci after 2 years of 10 collections per year...like never ever wanting to step into an atelier after the trauma

where it was Loewe sponsored but was upstaged by Galliano?
well I don’t think HC is defined by only one aesthetic, and John’s latest couture offer is definitely out of the world. I think, for my standard, JWA has proved himself to be capable to oversee HC production. I am particularly keen to see his Menswear with HC flare. If that is not your taste, it is fine.

Delphine was the one who really championed him within the LVMH umbrella since the beginning. I think those two really trust and respect each other. I’m sure he will be given ample support to make it feasible.

From business pov, it’s actually even more pressure for Delphine since the success of Dior in the next fashion cycle will likely settle whether she will lead the LVMH empire in the future.

So she was the mastermind behind that corporate/imperialist feminism propaganda? I have to admit that without pulling those gimmicks, it might end up becoming a feminist's ultimate nightmare for the brand.

She'll leave with her mother.
Corporate nepo babies in fashion is something we should have a thread about on tFS

I'm excited to see what he does for Dior and if he can finally wakes this house up. I assume they will have a similar approach as NG at LV with. Bold pieces in the shows but you go to a store and it's merchandising galore because they know it'll still be MGC's cabas in a seasonal color that will sell and not the cookoo piece from the show. The one thing I'm scared about is Couture... He's always been weak in terms of Womens for me, so let's see how he handles that...
