Jonathan Anderson - Designer, Creative Director of JW Anderson & Christian Dior

Now this is just embarrassing. Both the design and execution are terrible. I don't think I have ever seen someone look this bad in Dior. Not wise from them to let something like this on red carpet when the womenswear hasn't been shown yet. Here goes all the talk about focusing on quality.

I do like Alba's looks, at least the ideas on sketch, but the finishing looked rushed and unpolished, like wrong fabric choice, wrong length, wrong pressing, etc ... they should have spend 2 more days in the ateliers.

Maybe someone like Peter Copping with a lot of experience in couture would be a valuable addition in the custom and couture department, to better finish Jonathan ideas.

The blue dress should have just been a column dress. Too much manipulation and details makes it confused.
I don’t mind the pant look. Maybe not that matchy and more of a flare silhouette. It needed to be slightly more fitted somewhere.

The problem with photos is that you can feel amazing in a look and it may not translate that well in photos.

It’s also so annoying to see so many custom looks before the debut runway show.

Yeah the double standards on MGC and JWA Dior are hilarious. If that terrible JWA gown had been designed by MGC she would have been ROASTED in every single forum thread and Instagram post but since it's from JWA you see a bunch of justifications nonsense "he never did couture", "he did not show his first womenswear collection", "he needs time to build up his vision". All crap to defend your favorite designer.
We know that the fashion pack has the tendency to idolize specific (mostly) men designer putting them on a pedestal of invulnerability from critics.
NG, JWA, HA, Miuccia could send a literal potato sack on the runway or the red carpet and you would still see people defending them "you do not understand", "this is high fashion", "the way the designer approached the concept is astonishing". People, please...

I'm sincerely curious now, not really to see what JW will cook up for RTW, where the stakes are not so high - the man after all stands better chances to hide his lack of technical skills beyond a curtain of intellectual pretentiousness and marketing stunts...but in Couture, well, that's another story. I find it hilarious and worrying in equal measure that this guy will have to take the reins of one of the most skilled ateliers in the world. It's like giving the key of your Ferrari to someone who's used to driving a Dacia... If Alba's dress is any indication of what's to come, good luck mate, you'll need it.

Not just that he's also stepping into the shoes of a very good couture designer maria! Like her or not she had a lot of skill, italian skills. marketing is not the same as dressmaking as we see with this navy blue montrosity. I feel we may have another raf situation on our hands. If a designer can't make beautiful evening wear at a evening wear design house he's not gonna make it. Bags and shoes and fluff are only part of the game. The dreams are sold by the evening dresses. But let's wait and see the first couture show will prove everything.
