Jonathan Anderson - Designer, Creative Director of JW Anderson & Christian Dior

Thanks for the review of the looks, and yes like I said earlier Dior's PRs have saturated the summer and it reflects poorly on his work, and I doubt JWA had his words on that.
Imho it's was more directed to the LVMH shareholders but I don't fully understand the rush, they can wait to properly launch a designer and they actually did wait, most notably between Raf and MGC.

Chanel's executives were more patient; Virginie left in June 24, Blazy announced in October 24 if I recall well, and we are nearly a year later without any previews (and numerous bad studio collections).

Imho it's entirely due to the shareholders' situations and vision about their company - micromanaging Arnaults vs demanding but long-term Wertheimers. It's quite sad actually.

Re, I don't care about that white shirtdress on Julia Roberts, and it's actually one of the best tailored preview look, but it makes me wanting to revisit the Gianfranco Ferré archives and wondering if that is a direction JWA might be interested in.

Are the clients from MGC's Dior okay with this new direction? I'm curious if they'll stay as loyal clients.
MGC might be the most dull and pedestrian, but she retained and gained new customers for Dior. Especially, during the influx of the late 2010s Nouveau Riche.

I would imagine the majority of top-tier female Dior customers would purchase no matter if you presented them Raf, Maria Grazia or JWA. The prestige of the brand hasn‘t decreased, for a lot of these women, exceptional customer service / SA relations are a key factor to keep customers tied to a brand.

Surely not, but what about JWA reputation as the golden boy of fashion?

Thats a story telling for Top clients, Couture clients and things like that.
Dior’s MGC was approachable and easily understandable by women.
We don’t need brain surgery to understand an A line dress. Her clothes are/were very easy…So easy that at some point it even stopped speaking to a HF person.

There’s not so much a MGC’s client than a Dior woman. Women who loves Dior, loves Dior…Or at least that idea of feminity even if it’s not always visible in terms of creative direction.

As he gets into the womenswear and couture of it all, it will be interesting to understand his vision as it translates to the ACTUAL couture clientele. Not just “couture” for the red carpet events. MGC understood that well, whereas I’m not sure JW does and/or will.

His vision isn’t extreme enough at this point to configure a dilution like we saw with Galliano, nor is it inherently classic enough to work for a multitude like with Raf and particularly MGC. He doesn’t do pretty or classic well (especially after seeing his bar suit riffs). Wonder how far they saw JWs tenure working out from a long term perspective… something is amiss and seems like the suits and deciders don’t want to own up to it. Time will tell, but are we willing to endure that?

No one not on Dior’s payroll is secretly into the Bar jacket/polo combo. Who asked for this? Nostalgic millennials who spent their teens at Abercrombie and Hollister — and finally have Dior money to dress up their nostalgia?

I don’t think this is what Monsieur Dior intended in his vision of the Dior woman. Yes fashion houses need to evolve and present us with something exciting and new, this is not that.

I wonder how much this is Delphine just wanting to work with her BFF because JWA really was not the choice. She could have gone for Nicolas if she wanted to bring another bff in. I would blindly trust NG a lot more than JWA to not f this up.

I believe, and I truly hope I'm right because it already feels as if JW's legacy is tarnishing quite rapidly and I'm not loving that for him, that a lot of what we've seen so far has been rushed to usher in a new era for Dior, which in some ways I do understand. In some ways, I think what is on celeb's should be reflected in store, let MGC-era die out naturally.

That being said, the mishaps so far are near fatal, especially before an actual debut. I actually really like this new Lady Dior campaign, though the only ambassador that really feels like a good fit is Mia Goth. I think the night shirt on Julia Roberts is kind of hysterical in a good way, though as noted so much of what is happening is very questionable. And the videos are really just giving men's rehashed. And I liked the men's show! A lot actually. I'm just worried that women's will be a direct translation of what has already been shown, but with questionable gowns.

I quite like the campaign too in terms of aesthetics and world-building. There is a lightness and softness to it that is very dreamy. But the femininity leans too girlish, too juvenile, too 13 going on 30. It is very Miss Dior, very young adult-coded.

And I just don't get the polo shirts, why are we making this the focal piece of the 'new' Dior? He couldn't find another way of weaving in his family's relationship with rugby?
