nqth, thanks for posting these pictures.
I have always felt that re-working the most classic and staple of pieces was most interesting since everybody could relate to it, after all, these are sort of pop-cultural iconics that almost everybody already owned and wore (although I must admit that I have never owned a single polo shirt in my life) ... HOWEVER, and I think that is the biggest of problems here, these are almost none-design that do not justify a designer price tag. Believe it or not, but converse themselves had similar non-lace up chucks that looked a little deconstructed, obviously for a much cheaper pricepoint than these will actually go for (Yoox had them if I remember correctly). As for the Polo, it´s only the button line which goes a little deeper than usual, I don´t see the Junya input, I am afraid.
I think Undercover is sometimes really good at doing pieces like these, I remember that collection where he only showed twins wearing identical outfits, one normal and one distorted, and the NYC t-shirts, the one that almost every tourist is buying, turned out so nicely in the outsize version. That for me was a very witty touch. One must always cross a fine line between genius and banalism, and I think as far as these "merchandise" designs from Junya are concerned, it didn´t work out properly.
