Junya Watanabe Homme S/S 2006 Paris

You are welcome, Tricot:-)

I never wear polo too:-) (I have received as a gift brown (why why why) polo) but I think I want one this summer. Yoox sold a true blue JW polo with the yellow gothic M which was v. nice, in 95% polyester.

I think there are diff. Lacoste JW polos, back-to-front with the croc at the back (seams are inside out), the one with reworked arms, and this one with more buttons and higher placed croc. There are also over dyed ones. I think it's typical Comme's way of deconstruction.

I posted some pics in the DSM thread, here they are again:-P

Thanks nqth - like the sneaks a lot, but they will be v expensive too I think. Also I have to say that when I saw these on the runway I thought they were just converse Purcells.

If the translation is right, the information card said they are customized in Japan from ready made (in China) shoes:-))

Thanks again nqth. Tha'ts interesting actually...about the sneakers, that they are customised rather than made from scratch for Junya. It's a slightly different approach from before, which has always been CDG clothes made on the basis of (but not customised from) existing clothes. I'm interested to see the jeans and what they've done with those.

Ah-ha - the top ones are def from thsi summer. I like the darts. I think the botttom ones may be from earlier

ngth - thanks for the pics. Interesting to see those re-work pieces. The jeans are kind of cool but do the re-works on the waist make the fit much baggier/saggier? I guess I have to see them in person in order to tell.

Yes that's a very nice polo shirt. I am surprised how comfortable it is (in polyester) and the shape holds up so good. It's really thick in material (feels like it has another layer of fabric underneath so you don't feel the polyester fabric when wearing it...but it gets hot wearing it in the summer time) It's one of my favorite. CDG/Junya did a really good job on their polyester fabrics.

OK....I checked........the plain white lacost polos are.............£300!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Saw this in person yesterday - I did not like any of it. Very expensive, and nothing interesting. A new low (or high, depending on your view) - a $925 pair of Junya x Levis denim jeans.

Tell me more Faust - was there nothing of interest? Were the jeans nice? Did you see any ridiculously expensive Lacoste shirts?

There were very few pieces, but nothing redeeming in my eyes. The jeans were VERY rough and rugged - definitely not my cup of tea. They were slightly modified, but nothing interesting. There were also more jeans in different fabrics, nothing exciting, all around $400-500.

For Buckwheat......and any others who are interested (!) ..a report on the collection from having seen it now in a couple of stores.
For all their ridiculous expense, I think the lacoste tees are good, and cleverly done. The black ones are my favorite. They are made from hugely oversized American lacoste polos (size 9 on the labels!) and entirely tailored down to size then overdyed in black (so you can't actually see the croc). They are quite tailored in fact - the sleeves are elongated slightly and cut three times rather than just once to acheive a contoured effect. All stitching is highly visiblein white. THe coloured ones are nice too, and not quite so expensive. They seem to be made from smaller originals (size 5) and have less intricate tailoring.

THere are many other levis collaborations as wll as the jeans. Pants in striped and checked wool and cotton fabrics. OK - nothing special. The jeans are, to a jeans freak, great, but hugely expensive. There are four or five diff types, mostly raw and unwashed. Made from japanese selvedge Big E denim (hence, partly, the high prices). Again cleverly retailored - the inserts are designed to be folded in to create pleats and tied in with a thick belt. They look really good on, very strange on the hanger, since they are massive around the waist.

The pointer jackets are quite nice, but not stunning. Again they are all recut and sewn back together from original garments and most are overdyed. The single breasted blazers are quite nice - the black ones are quite striking. The ble ones with the plastic pockets look a bit crap actually - the plastic is really plasticky!

The customized converse are great....

Thanks Johnny. Very interesting about the Lacoste Polos. Really want to see them in person. Even though they sound clevely done, I am not sure about the high price as some of us have mentioned. I still remember the first time I visit NYC in 2000 I saw those Junya x Levis at Barneys...I was so excited but had to put them back quick on the shelf when I saw the almost $500 price tag. :D and now almost $1000?!

This S/S 2006 collection didn't do much to me at first but now I am starting to like some of the jackets...I like this one from Pollyanna.com

Thanks for the report Johnny. I saw some Lacoste polos over at Holt Renfrew, didn't realize they were re-tailored from such a huge size, the ones available were just the plain white with the croc in the back and it was priced at almost $700 CAD...didn't see any of the jeans with the interesting tailoring tricks, i just saw a really nice pair of plain, straight legged, half-selvedge raw denim with a small leather cinch detail around the waist area, classic 66 501 model but it was $1,500 - i was seriously wondering if it was only that expensive there or was it as highly priced elsewhere, based on faust's report I'm starting to think Junya's gone bonkers with his pricing on certain items.

I like that jacket too Buckwheat. Again those jackets are more interesting int he flesh than they seem. They are garmet overdyed and almost have a greeny effect around the white stitching. The fabric is quite stiff and sort of moulds a bit to the body.

FtB - I'm confused about the price tag on those jeans.....they should not be that price (it's US $ right?). Those jeans are also slightly more interresting than they first seem. They are made fromreally big jeans and cut down from the waist, and the waistband resewn on - they have a really low waitline as a result, and only three crotch buttons. They also open for about six inches under each side belt by way of a further button fastening. I think they were originally double ended selvedge and one side has been cut down to make the leg much narrower than the original - the size on the label is 36/36. These are not LVC repros, but are big E denim, adn I think this is ultra rare now.
