Karl insults Princess Diana

"She was pretty and she was sweet, but she was stupid," declares Lagerfeld, who apparently never heard about not speaking ill of the dead.

He much prefers Prince Charles' new wife.

"The public does not know who Camilla is," he tells interviewer Vanessa Grigoriadis.

"She is the life of the party! She's sparkling, she's witty, she's ready for everything, and not pretentious, not one bit. If you had to make a choice to live with somebody, this is the one."

If you're wondering why he always wears the shades - it's because he's afraid someone will splash chemicals into his eyes.

He said:

"I cannot go out without something for my eyes, because someone might throw chemicals in my face."

He should really *think* before he speaks. Even if it were the case (it IS true she wasn't academic which definitely does not equal stupidity), come on, why comment at all! It's just so CRASS to make the comparisom between Camilla and Diana. It actually makes me burn with cringy embarrassment.

I respect him as a designer but honestly, his verbal diarrhea is beyond comprehension.

I haven't read the article, but if one is to go around insulting beloved deceased royalty, one may reasonably fear an attack by someone throwing literal vitriol.

Personally, I expect nothing less from Karl and I am more amused than anything else.

I would love to have him and Lou Reed over for a cocktail party.

She really wasn't anything overly special - granted she did lots of charity work, but no more really that other royals - hers was just more public.

It was of course tragic how she died, but she has been elevated to a level far higher than she deserves, imo.

I think Diana was unique in the context of the Royal Family. Little things like not being afriad to touch someone with AIDS, not wearing gloves to shake people's hands and generally not being a stuffy old bint, is what made her special

I do however get your point with the last sentence.

Death does great things for people's careers. The likes of Marilyn Monroe, Elvis and John Lennon to name a few were good before death but became elevated to ridiculous god-like proportions, in my opinion, after they died.

Waiting with the two of you. I liked Diana a great deal and was deeply saddened by her death. I think Charles was a dishonest, cowardly prick in the way he handled his marriage to her, and I really don't like Camilla. But I'm often baffled by this cult of idol worship that has sprung up around Diana since her death. What's most confusing is that it's often among people who aren't even old enough to really remember her when she was alive (not speaking about any one here, since I don't know how old you all are, just what I've experienced in RL). She was a good woman, a human woman, a flawed woman who was screwed over in many ways by the royal family but who got many of her own digs in too. She deserves respect for her good deeds during life, and the benefit of the doubt in death, but I can't stand the concept of not speaking ill of the dead. Why should the living have to tiptoe around never saying anything remotely antagonistic just because the person is dead? Karl is an ***, he says a lot of assy things about living people. He'd be a hypocrite as well to bite his tongue about the dead just because they're dead.
