Karl Lagerfeld - Designer

Virginie Viard has officially been appointed as Karl's successor at Chanel.

A true fashion icon is gone. Sad day. I will miss his (often bitchy) comments the most.

"Sweatpants are a sign of defeat. You lost control of your life so you bought some sweatpants." Truer words have never been spoken.

RIP Kaiser Karl!

It’s sad...
He is/was my hero...
Weirdly, yesterday I was looking at pictures of the FW93 Chanel Couture show. The show that started my love for fashion and my love for Karl.

Such an icon.
He changed fashion and culture in a tremendous way.
I feel blessed to have witness his creativity, wear his clothes and met him several times.

His last Couture collection has an even more emotional connection. He was obsessed with 18th century French Culture.
More than a designer, he was an artist who dedicated (and sacrified) his life to art.

RIP master, Rip Kaiser, rip my hero.

Wow, that's some news. Interesting to see what's in store for Chanel but they are most likely following the blueprint he had left. RIP.

I almost dropped my phone when i read the news. Wow.

It's crazy because I think everyone could see that he was at the end of his career. He was visibly old and weak in the past year, It was clear that retirement plans were in motion, but I always thought he would have the time to have a proper farewell, a real event only he can do and deserves. Never crossed my mind he would be gone this suddenly. It's heartbreaking.

I don't think we even need to say the weight Karl had in fahion, and what a loss this is. In a lot of ways, he WAS fashion. And fahion, as we know it, might die with him.

damn, this is one of those awkward days when you remember that some people is just another mortal like me and you. I'm not shocked and not even sad but i'm tremendously moved. All we can say is thanks.

(this made me think about the idea of Rei dying. She's very old now )

Breathtaking news when I saw the notification this morning.

Karl legacy and impact will live on forever. It's sudden in a sense that we all expected to see a grandiose farewell at least. But when you think about it his whole career has been showing his best at every chance. RIP.

I knew this was inevitable but it’s still so surreal. RIP :(

Rest in Peace...

Unbelievable... yes, as @Perickles wrote yet, Karl gave me a feelings that he was an immortal, i can't imagine fashion without Kaiser Karl.

Truly sad, but what a legacy he's leaving behind.

Those super long articles on BoF and WWD tells me that they knew well ahead and had already written the articles. This morning they simply hit publish.
Standard practice indeed in Media and his absence at the Couture show only motivated publications to write their necrology earlier.

I was quite prepared for this moment, giving his heath situation lately, but Im devastated and nothing can change that. Somehow I knew that FW19 would be his last show, but I didn't think that he was going to die, I thought that he was going to announce his retirement...

He gave us so much things, he was a fashion monster, a legend and he always will be.

R.I.P Karl, thanks for EVERYTHING, you always will have a place in my heart.

Rest in peace, I knew he wasn't well but still... you don't expect to see them go..

Heard a rumor last week, that he was dying, but thought, it's probably just vicious gossip!!

Karl has formed so much of my "Fashion Identity", I really think he was a genius in so many ways. A true brilliant mind, so brilliant I often wondered what he would be if he didn't go into Fashion. I bet he could do anything, and be good at it.

And even though lately, i have been more excited with his work for Fendi than anything he put out under Chanel, he really did that house justice, for so long.

I will miss his honesty, his sass, his brutal no diplomacy interviews, and his collections.

Everyone should read Alicia Drake's The Beautiful Fall (I know he hated it), but i thought she did him so much justice in the book. You get the sense of the whole scope of this great mans, amazing talent.

RIP Karl, thanks for the fun.

Inevitable shock. While we knew this day would come, he was one of those people you think could live forever. Repose en paix, Karl.

So sad it happened before his two shows.
I had a feeling it was going to happen this year.

ps : They could have wait to announce Viard's nomination

R.I.P.

I POST THIS NEWS 2 HOURS AGO, WHY MOVE MY THREAD TO RUMOR FORUM? KARL IS THE KING OF FASHION. DIDN'T HE DESERVE A THREAD HERE? EVEN HIS NEWS IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN 80% MEANINGLESS DESIGNER COLLECTION THREADS. SERIOUSLY?

Wow, so he died and you got mad because your thread was moved to rumor ? Chill ...
It's back where it's supposed to be :)

Anna Wintour Remembers Karl Lagerfeld
“Today the world lost a giant among men. Karl was so much more than our greatest and most prolific designer—his creative genius was breathtaking and to be his friend was an exceptional gift. Karl was brilliant, he was wicked, he was funny, he was generous beyond measure, and he was deeply kind. I will miss him so very much.”
