What I mean is he says that he love so much about fashion, how it can be high art, but at different price point. It is just really about making money.

puffy isn't allowed to do clothes cause he's not a 'real' designer...

I dunno, I know lots of people dislike him...and I don't like the idea of this new collection (Isn't this new line, which is obviously a diffusion line, the work of Tommy Hilfiger..I mean..you can't get more commercial than dear Tommy ) but I must say I somewhat agree with you here. I kinda like Karl...he's so eccentric and strange. And I find quite a lot (but not all) of the Chanel clothing quite attractive.

*making money is a good thing, making too much money and wanting to make ALL the possible money you can in any way possible is basically taking things to extremes , its obsession and i dont think its about money either (thats karl)

b-the downsizing from working with Lang to be working with Karl , it certainly isnt a 'developement' i see this as a 'negative' step
c-bad steps may pay well for a while, but not on the long run

the Melanie Ward i used to adore couldnt possibly art direct Karls' diffusion line financied by Tommy.. i know, money have no colour, but still, to me, its a let down, makes me sad for her.. regardless the cash she will milk in, the way i look at her work will never be the same.. and i may not be alone in this

I think what happens is when designers overview too many collections, they spend a lot less time on most of them, and suddenly most of their stuff is more "market" orientated, than fashion. Of course there are some exceptions, but that is what happens most of the time.

I say Karl should stick to what he does best : Chanel and stop all the rest (his Fendi designs have been pretty these past seasons, and Lagerfeld Gallery really is NOT great at all...).

but since lagerfeld gallery has never really been a big success....
this is a chance for karl to design under HIS OWN NAME....
and perhaps get more popular recognition...

everyone wants to be uberfamous these days, it seems...

it's got to be an issue for him to design under his own name...
especially since we all acknowledge he has this huge ego...
and america is the BIGGEST MARKET...!!...

the h&m thing was the perfect precursor to this new venture...
it introduced him to the mainstream in a more accessible way...
and now he follows up with his own moerately priced label to capitalize on that exposure...

i am very interested in marketing strategy...
and this all sounds very very clever from a business point of view...
the more i think about it...
the more i am impressed.....

I agree with Kimkhuu. He should just stick to Chanel and give it his full attention instead of throwing as much crap out there as possible.
