^ No, it can't...It would signal the end of civilisation as we know it...

I just saw a Chinese company is trying to buy Hummer from GM...The obvious story here is that Karl wants the Wertheimers to buy Hummer for him so that we can finally see them build the Chanel Hummer!! ^_^

Damn! I wanna be a Chanel Model!! These guys get to go everywhere!!

He really had to take them this time, to make Moscow's "hot guys" average little better, even for a few days ^_^

I don't believe rumors either. We would even have fun counting down days till the show anymore, or wait to see the set... sounds awful already :ninja:

I wonder why Diane Pernet would say something like that...
it all sounds very strange... chanel without karl, lanvin without alber (when he's getting THE BEST critics of his work at the hourse).
i always thought (or wished) karl's natural successor at chanel would be someone like slimane. but that had to be, of course, until the kaiser left us for good.

it would seem rather foolish to leave the house and "ending" his +25 years at the house.
fendi doesnt have such a good recognition in terms of trend-setting collections, and KL is also pretty ignored by the buyers in general.
i dont want to believe that he is going to end his career editing books and giving voice to animated pictures.

Although i understand boomer's theory on Hummer (karl's the first thing that came to mind when i heard the name on the news), i'd rather say that this is just Diane Pernet claiming some attention. Maybe her hit-count have dropped, hm? like swans when they die, no? a black swan in this case... hm?

If a change at this magnitude were to happen, I am sure its announcement would be much bigger than some questionable internet rumors. Lanvin would be crazy to let Alber go, but then again, who doesn't want to design for Chanel?

I think these are just rumors. Karl must be more responsible than leaving Chanel in the middle of the worst financial crisis of the modern times. His departure from Chanel would be such an event that would be unmatched by anything else in fashion history.

After Diane Pernet reported on her blog A Shaded View on Fashion that Karl Lagerfeld supposedly didn't renew his contract with Chanel, we inquired about the rumor's veracity directly with the label. A spokeswoman responded with an emphatic "No!" So there you have it. Update: A spokesperson for Lanvin has also denied the rumor that Alber Elbaz will replace Karl at Chanel.
The Cut

What a relief! There's no way I could imagine Chanel without Karl or Alber Elbaz being replaced by Theyskens at Lanvin.

but then again, who doesn't want to design for Chanel?

On one hand yes, it's very prestigious etc., but I think there would be an enormous pressure on the person who would be the next one after Karl. Same was with Allessandra after Tom Ford's departure from Gucci and we're talking about Chanel here.

I have been re-reading The Beautiful Fall and I really believe Karl has waited his whole life to get where he is right now- A zillion collections, rock star status in and out of the industry, pretty much his every whim and interest being taken care of- and Chanel needs him at least as much as he needs Chanel! Other than Tom Ford a few years (and bottles of Scotch...) ago, I can think of no one who could fill his shoes!! I think he will die with his boots on, as they say, or at least with 15 rings on, sitting at his desk drawing a new collection... Actually, I find it disturbing to even consider life without Karl...:(

tom at chanel? no!!
as much as i love him and his work for gucci, i find pretty much disgusting what he did with/to saint laurent (for another label maybe, but not for YSL)
destroying chanel would be way too much... dont think i could handle that!
for me, right now, the only one i can think of as a good successor is as i said, Hedi.
maybe he could work a bit more on the chanel monsieur lines too, no?

Not to further fan the flames of the (still pretty out-there) rumour, but maybe Karl is telling us something with his sunset-themed collections. First cruise, and now couture. It might be a metaphor for his career, but then again, he had a photography exhibit full of pictures of Paris in twilight, so it may very well mean nothing.

^^i also thought of the sunset thing and the grand palais and the show being couture...
he ALWAYS shows in the morning, so that is indeed strange. he's said many times that twilight is his favourite time of the day... something about the light and how the shadows and sculptures become alive...
still i refuse to think he's leaving! it can't be! it just can't be!!
i don't see karl saying "adieu!" bored in his quai de voltaire apartment, sitting in a Zaha Hadid lounge reading some of his 233528942456789098762544312 books at a time all day...
he hates the word "job", he hates "career" and "work"... he does it like he "breathes", and when you dont work, you just can't retire!

Karl can not retire...It's that simple..He dies at age 89 sitting at his desk with a pencil in his hand...Anything else is not possible....B) (BTW, I was involved with the people at Ralph Lauren for years, and this is also a big issue for them...Compared to Karl he does more editing and a lot less of the creating of course- but who would be the "new" Ralph Lauren...)? :( His oldest son is pretty much ready to run the company at this point, but still- he is another icon who will be all but impossible to replace...

^^ or armani! huge persona! very precise, and spreaded so so so so thin.... no one can take over such a big empire. you have to build it to control it

^ Thanks!! I remember that from back when- so glad to see it again!! :flower: All my favorite girls!!

Baptiste Giabiconi: A Mini–Karl Lagerfeld?
Baptiste Giabiconi accompanied Karl Lagerfeld to a dinner held in the Kaiser's honor on the eve of Art Basel in Switzerland. He looked ultradapper in a three-piece suit with his hair combed back from his face.
Does he need more accessories, like Karl?

nobody wears the high collars quite like karl, hm?
... and our dear kaiser insists on making everyone wear his hideous wide ties...
