How Kate Does It: From Mom to Star:
She's a mommy one minute and a red-carpet star the next! See how the
You, Me and Dupree actress makes it all happen.
"Just watching him discover every part of himself and especially his mind is just fantastic," Hudson says of raising Ryder Russell Robinson (with musician husband Chris Robinson). Indeed, the actress (in Malibu) relishes every moment she spends with her 2-year-old. "Isn't it funny how it takes over everything?" she told
InStyle of parenthood. "It makes you never want to work again."
But work she does: Switching from earth mother to A-lister is all part of a day for Hudson (glowing in Diane Von Furstenberg at her L.A. premiere). "I really love what I do," she says in the July issue of
Vogue. "People don't always want to believe that. They want to believe I do it because I felt I had to, or to be like my mom (Oscar winner Goldie Hawn), or to compete with my mom. I am so much less complicated than that. I like acting."
On the set of
Dupree, Hudson balanced family life with screen life, tending to Ryder off-camera (left) and shooting with the cast (right, with costar Matt Dillon). Since having Ryder, Hudson has said, “I feel more vivacious, more sexual, more alive, vital, fearless, and I think that it's because I'm seeing it in him.”
While Hudson may look the part of a girly girl, at home, it's all about being one of the guys. "I grew up with all boys," Hudson (at an L.A. Lakers game with Ryder) told MTV recently. "I'm totally ready to play poker at any time, and if they want to kick a soccer ball around, I'm ready."
In one week Hudson skipped across the country to promote
Dupree, appearing on
The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in L.A. and, in New York, on
TRL, The View and other chatfests.
Before her whirlwind tour for
Dupree, Hudson traveled to Cabo San Lucas for brother Oliver's June wedding, where she walked ringbearer Ryder down the aisle. "He stole the show!" said the bride, Erinn Bartlett. "She's the best sister a guy could have," younger brother Wyatt told
InStyle of Hudson. "She's got unconditional love."
Though Hudson has a full plate – last week alone she made at least five appearances in one day (including on the
Today show, left) – more kids are definitely in the cards. "I would love to have twins," the actress said on
The View. "I kind of wanna get it all out of the way fast, and then by the time I'm 47, they're all out of the house."
