Pete's in a Razor-fight by Luke Blackall with Jessica Barrett. Monday, 21 May 2007

The rock ‘n’ roll rivalry between Pete Doherty’s Babyshambles and Johnny Borrell’s Razorlight has resurfaced after the pair were involved in on-pitch scuffles at a charity football match.

A sober and on-time Doherty turned up at Upton Park, home of West Ham, in the mood to win. And it was sacked Libertine bassist Borrell’s Razorlight team who provoked the most competitive performance from the Babyshambles frontman.

The bands kicked off the most violent match of the tournament as each team desperately played to win a place in the quarter-finals.

An onlooker tells theBuzz: “The Babyshambles and Razorlight teams were taking the game really seriously, other teams were just there for a bit of a laugh but this game was really fierce.

“They fought tooth and nail, neither team wanted to lose out to the other band.”

Doherty led his team in the Soccer Six tournament, to raise money for The Samaritans, in a vicious offensive, several scuffles broke out during the match there was some aggressive tackling between the two frontmen.

Borrell’s team eventually lost 2-1 to Babyshambles, who beat sides including the Hollyoaks cast, former Gladiators and fellow rockers Towers of London to win the competition.

Pete's most recent endeavor is blood splattered art

Pete Doherty’s bleeding art

He is a singer and a poet and now Pete Doherty hopes to prove he's an artist, too.

The Babyshambles star has unveiled his first public exhibition of his paintings and prints - produced in his own blood.

The show, Bloodworks, includes four canvases and 10 other original pieces in blood, pen and pencil, ranging from a self-portrait to landscapes and even a crucifixion.

Many are illustrations for his diaries, being published this month as The Books Of Albion: The Collected Writings Of Peter Doherty.

Prices for the originals are yet to be fixed but limited edition prints will also be on offer, signed in pencil for around £350 or in Doherty's blood for £1,200.

Robin Barton, of the Bankrobber gallery, presenting the show, claimed the medium was very appropriate for Doherty.

"His use of blood lends itself perfectly to exploring the extraordinary personal and physical intensity that characterises so much of Peter's life and work as an artist in the broadest sense," he said.

Doherty, 28, formerly of The Libertines, has previously given readings of his poetry alongside regular gigs.

Bloodworks will run at Bankrobber in London's Notting Hill, for at least four weeks.

I like the first one too. Its kind of eerie that he put his blood on it though!

Yes, he may have a smidge of talent in the visual arts field, I admit; they are not all that bad, but the blood on canvas thing is about as passe as using paint and nothing new. I'm sure he feels he's quite avant garde, however artists have been expressing themselves with their own bodily fluids for centuries...

Honestly, I know those sketches would never fetch the asking price if the names Kate and Pete weren't attached to them. Juding on talent alone, they aren't worth that much...

this is good... it is really simple, guess he needed to get some thinks out of his brain.

Well I've seen them, and they are probably interesting more than anything. Some of them reminds me of pages from the books of Albion, scriblings and pictures and writings and paintings, except they are in blood of course.

I agree with you; Pete’s sketches are interesting more than anything. Since you've seen them, does he do any kind of sketches of Kate?

Not being familiar with them, I had to look up the Books of Albion and I can definitely see the similarity to which you've referred. The Books are interesting too; thanks for mentioning them. I like journals and such since I'm kind of voyeur that way...;)

Hey, totally OT, but sorry if we got off to a rocky start okay? :flower: Sometimes it's okay to just agree to disagree, you know? :p

Someone's been bit by the Doherty-bug! :p^_^

There is one drawing of a woman, and the text next to it goes something like 'Blackbird phoned me up in the middle of the night, saying (something about smoking something and sucking something, which i am sure won't be approved by the mods)'. The drawing could be Kate, but then it could be anyone i guess. Except that there is nothing obvious, but then there are so many writings and scribblings, so there might as well be something about her there.

I think it was that vid of him when he was 17 years old in the Oasis line. He was a cutie and quite witty. So, there's something in there I think. I MAY have been wrong, I'll admit.;)
