Doherty Arrested For Assault
Troubled English rocker Pete Doherty has been arrested on suspicion of assault and theft.
The former Libertine, who has been dating supermodel Kate Moss since last month (JAN05), remains in police custody today (03FEB05), following an alleged fight last night (02FEB05) with his friend, film-maker Max Carlish in a London hotel.
A Scotland Yard (UK police headquarters) spokesman says, "Police were called to a hotel in Peters Lane, London EC1, at 6.20pm yesterday following a report of a man being assaulted.
"A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and theft.
"He was taken to a north London police station and remains in custody."
Carlish, 38, was treated for minor facial injuries at University College Hospital and later discharged.
In an exclusive interview with the Daily Mirror, Carlish claims Doherty lost his temper after he refused to give the singer money to purchase heroin.
Carlish says, "I was with Pete and everything was going fine until he started demanding loads of cash. He wanted thousands (of pounds). He was desperate for a fix.
"I said no and he went berserk, punching me. There was nothing I could do. He beat me and he wouldn't stop. My face is a mess. He stole all the money I had and my mobile phone."
The incident isn't the first time Doherty has been in trouble with the law. The Babyshambles frontman spent six months behind bars for burgling the house of his Libertines bandmate Carl Barat in 2003, and was given a four-month suspended sentence for possession of a flick knife in September (04).
