Serious smooching reduces the body's allergic reaction to pollen, researchers say.
Think of 30 minutes of kissing as therapy.
The research finds that kissing relaxed the body and reduced production of histamine, a chemical cell given out in response to allergens. Histamine causes people's airways to swell shut.
The study done by Japanese researchers at Satou Hospital involved 24 people who suffered from allergies, according to a Discovery Channel report.
They kissed and listened to relaxing music. Researchers also had the same group just cuddle for the same amount of time.
Blood samples taken before and after kissing showed lower levels of immunoglobulin E (IgE), which prompts the release of histamine and triggers hay fever and asthma symptoms.
The research found that just cuddling didn't have the same effect.
The Boston Herald reports scientists found similar results in another group of patients with dermatitis, a skin condition triggered by allergies.
