Kris Van Assche Replaced with Gareth Pugh at Dior Homme?

Gareth Pugh + DH, hmmm, DH will become even darker and gothic....

since this has not been confirmed, it has been merged with the existing thread in rumour has it...

i know im probably alone here, but i kind of feel bad for kva, although i was strongly dissapointed with his first collections for DH, i felt like he was finally on the right track with AW09!

i'm not sure what to think of pugh for DH yet, he seems very talented and promising, but
his last show makes hedi's luster seem like a gap collection !! i mean it is beyond unwearable..

it's a very bold move from LVMH getting rid of kva so soon, and replacing him with an even younger relatively obscure designer with such an extreme aestethic ?! of course pugh will have to tone things down quite a bit if he plans on staying on board...

you're not alone. but i shouldn't feel too sad i mean perhaps this will rekindle some fire in his own line now.

i dunno if i'd consider gareth obscure though....i mean look at all the media and celeb attention he's been receiving the last couple years. beyond obscure. and i agree with whomever suggested it,perhaps that is the reason for the interest in gareth. let's just say the hype has dwindled since immortal hedi () left and unfortunately there was really nothing kris could do about it.

I think it could be great, I'd love to see what Gareth does with a more restricted collection

TBH I'm kind of skeptical if this does turn out to be true. For starters, he just debuted a full fledged menswear collection, and just because he's able to deliver his signature look for men doesn't automatically make him a good menswear designer.

In addition to that, I think he's still kind of green. Yeah, he's got promise, but I think he's in that transition phase between student fresh out of school and established young designer. I don't think Pugh has proven himself a really good designer yet, he's just shown promise as one.

I'm not sure if Gareth Pugh and his aura and reputation would sit easy with previous Dior Homme fans/devotees.

i feel like LVMH would totally water down his talent. Gareth provides some of the most hard to pull off clothing currently available, and for that reason, i love him. I could just imagine anorexic ties made of black vinyl, suits with the same vinyl detailing, and trainers with spikes in them. BORING. Though i wouldn't mind the jeans to be re-slimmed down like back in the old days when nobody could fit them without sizing up 3 times.

Unless he maintains his own label beside DH, his moving would be the death of his aesthetic.

maybe there's a catch: lvmh lets him do dior homme along with them owning the brand gareth pugh.. iono.

I love Gareth Pugh, but I don't want to see ppl put too much expectation on him, it may lead to disappointment. Hedi came out at a right time and he became the icon of DH, it need time for ppl to accept another DH.

It's true! Gareth Pugh IS taking over at Dior Homme. The rumours started when Delphine Arnault, the daughter of LVMH head honcho Bernard Arnault sat front row at his debut menswear show in Paris, and now we've heard from well placed sources backstage at Louise Goldin that it's a done deal. No official from LVMH yet but we're expecting the announcement that Gareth is taking over from Dior Homme's current designer Kris van Assche any day now.

Hm...as much as I want to believe this (again) I don't want to get my hopes up. I'll wait for the official announcement this time. But this is great if true.

Well Grazia is pretty big and actually, imo, has some clout in the British fashion press. I would say this is equivalent to Page Six making a statement - kind of tabloid-y, but most of their stuff is true.

Grazia is very good at breaking news, and they are usually extremely reliable. Interesting that Gareth didn't present a menswear collection in June and has so far kept a very low profile this year with press at a minimum. I wouldn't be surprised if he was in fact already on LVMH's payroll.

I am merging this into our larger Gareth Pugh / Dior Homme Rumor Thread.
