L.A.M.B. by Gwen Stefani S/S 06 New York

i LOVE gwen and her music and even her street style, but still think she could have done better.

man....this stuff is pretty bad. usually theres like at least one or two things i like in a collection....there really werent a lot of options here. same colours, same accessories, same horrible tracksuits. and barely anything was well-cut or flattering. poor gwen...she always looks awesome, but this collection says otherwise.

wow...I dont even know what to say to express how bad this collection is. I'm not just saying this because shes a celebrity and her clothes aren't neccissarily my style. I know that the collection is based on gwen's look and is supposed to be california/rock chic and not high fashion but then that leaves me to ask this question...WHY IS THIS MESS OF A COLLECTION EVEN ON THE RUNWAY IN THE FIRST PLACE?!! it doesnt belong there. I'm perfectly ok with her selling this stuff to whoever will buy it but she should leave the runway to serious designers who have studied and make clothes that have the fit, design and quality that designer clothes should have.

i thought it was pretty cute - but it doesn't belong on the runway. and i can't believe that anna wintour and style.com would praise it. they must have some ulterior motive. i know anna was probably squirming in her seat.

Celebrity Blessing

COMMON wisdom would hold that the higher a designer builds anticipation for a first runway appearance, the further he or she will fall in the event of a fashion flop. But that does not seem to hold true for celebrity designers. Gwen Stefani is the latest example of a pop star who attempts a career in clothing design, generates magnificent preshow buzz, then falls short of a real breakthrough on the runway, all without alienating her retail customers.

Tracksuits met Rastafarianism in Gwen Stefani's spring collection for L.A.M.B.

"It was not unlike Jennifer Lopez's last collection," said Kal Ruttenstein, the fashion director of Bloomingdale's, of Ms. Stefani's L.A.M.B. show, which took place at the end of Fashion Week on Friday. The show was a puzzling assemblage of sheer chiffon gowns and Rastafarian knits, with a few cute tracksuits, printed with Gothic script for good measure. It was staged at the Roseland Ballroom on a stage covered with white sand and vintage cars bouncing on modified hydraulics.

"Watching a show with smoke and cars that talk took away from the clothes," Mr. Ruttenstein said. "Gwen pays a lot of attention to what is going on in fashion in Europe. That does not make her a good designer, but certainly something has rubbed off."

Bloomingdale's is currently showing five L.A.M.B. looks for fall in its Lexington Avenue windows, but any negative reaction to the show in the press has fallen on deaf ears among shoppers. "The reaction to her clothes has been astounding," Mr. Ruttenstein said. "There's obviously an interest, and we will definitely continue to carry it."

Nor will Ms. Stefani's failure to make the leap from designing celebrity to celebrity designer discourage others from trying: Kelly Osbourne, who attended her show, told reporters she planned to design a collection; and Kanye West, the preppy rapper, is planning to start a collection next year, too, under a label his representatives said will be called Pastel.

I think the clothes themselves are bad enough, but the worst part about the actual show is that the collection doesn't seem unified at all. It's all over the place. Aren't runway shows supposed to have some kind of theme?

aaaah kanye west and kelly osbourne !!!!! This is makes me soo mad and not because they are designing clothes because they can do whatever they want. Its just the fact that celebrities (for the most part) are being accepted as serious designers in the fashion world. I mean they have spots on our fashion week schedule and they are recieving praise for these awful collections. They are sending the message to people that anyone can design and thats just not true. Designers need to design not celebrities!!! Sorry that was a little off topic but this made me angry reading that article and reading the good review on gwen's collection from style.com!

oh my god. that is soooo bad. it is all over the place, nothing cohesive about it. so many ugly outfits, ick ick ick.

Some of the pieces are nice. Some are not. But a nice debut i guess. You people need to relax.

The make-up is so chola-chic, very gang girl....i guess she was taken back to her O.C high school days. Did anyone see the reference to gang culture in her left eye? the three little dots (my crazy life) As for the clothes...simply okay.

HAHAHA i thought i was the only one that was seeing this!!! drawn in eye brows and hoop earings . . . Eeyyy Ese

I agree with you. I'm a fashion design student myself.. we all have to work 1000% harder and be more inventive and maybe we'll get lucky if we got noticed. I love Gwen but she designed funky (questionable) tracksuits and gets a runway show. If I designed it, I would be panned left and right. Oh and don't get me started on the other celebrity designers

Argh... way to start my Friday!

I don't know. I personally didn't like this collection. I read an article where Gwen literally rips off other designers creations if she likes what they do. Something about Vivienne Westwood's avant garde style.

I thought that the makeup was inspired by Dior S/S 04, which had basically the same makeup. I would be shocked if Gwen actually had a meaning in her makeup selection.

the chola influence came way before dior s/s 04 for gwen..........
she's said throughout her whole career how she was always awed by the chola girls' makeup and their 'whole tough but pretty' look. you could see the influence on her look especially around the early days of ND's tragic kingdom.. the beater tanks + baggy dickies, paired with girly polished hair and heavy makeup..
she's talked about that look being an inspiration long before s/s 04 came around..lol

Ive seen the Chola look (via a A&E documentary) and it certainly isnt pretty, not even in that high fashion way. I hated her Tragic Kingdom look, it was, well, tragic.

I'm really dissapointed by the collection. I'm a Gwen fan and loved her spring 2005 and fall 2005 collection, but this collection is in my opinion ... ugly. Some items look ok, but I expected more from the collection as a whole. I don't understand the positive reviews ...... maybe I'm missing something?
