Lauren Conrad Collection by Lauren Conrad

She didn't lose the buyers. She always said Viacom owned her line, but it was only a two year thing, after that she'd be responsible for financing herself or finding another buyer.

NYMag has always been so bitchy about her, their dislike is so transparent. She never said she was going to go high-end, she just said she'd use better quality fabrics, which would mean her clothes would have to be made abroad and not in the U.S. - that's the only way to cut costs.

Here's more info:

Lauren Conrad's clothing line is temporarily hold on hold, her rep confirms to Usmagazine.com.

"She is taking a hiatus, but the line still exists and will continue," her rep tells Us. "The sales of her line in the first year doubled what was projected. However, in light of the economy, it's a good time for Lauren to take a few seasons off to re-work her still budding line.

"She will look over the past seasons to determine what worked and what didn't work so that she may design clothing that will appeal to her fans," the rep continues.

Yeah, I don't think she lost any buyers just the financial backers. She had said that after two years she would be the owner of the brand but she would still need investors to keep her collection afloat....

Who knows why she lost them... Viacom is going thru some rough period financially and they also had to restructured the company. The other investor was a toy company... that was already on its last legs... so it might simply means that her investors could no longer afford to back a line that doesnt bring them a lot of revenues in return...

I really hope she does find another backer...but she needs to align herself with people that KNOW the fashion industry. Even the Olsen twins credit their success to the fact that they are surrounded with people who are experienced and willing to teach them. Lauren needs a lot of learning not only about designing but also the business aspect of fashion.

LC myspace page:

“Hey everyone! So I wanted to take a moment to clear something up. A few days ago a statement was released to the showrooms that carry my clothing line. It asked them to let the stores know that I was planning to take a couple seasons off from my line so that I could make some changes that I felt were necessary. As a result, a lot of people were under the impression that my line was being discontinued or had been dropped. This isn’t the case at all. The truth is I was the one who asked to take a couple seasons off. I learned so much in the past year and I want to apply that to the improvement of my clothing line. I also wanted to make some changes in production so I would be able to lower the price point. That being said, I am actually really excited about beginning this process. I have spent the last couple weeks working on designs for spring, which is when I am planning to bring the (new and improved) line back. I also have some very exciting things going on that will be announced shortly. So stay tuned!”

it doesn't change the fact that the line was subpar-in both inspiration and quality. I will be SHOCKED if it returns.

Im REALLY bummed that she's not doing a fall line since her line is my best seller. I wish she would do a capsule holiday collection or something; I dont think its smart to skip that season. But i figured the whole "relaunch" had to do with Viacom.

She has really cute stuff for spring, but for some reason all the pieces arent on her official shop site and Im not impressed with what some of the bigger boutiques purchased from her this season. This is my favorite piece this season:

Having purxchased it, I have to disagree. Two pieces have holes (similar as to how James pewrse clothing just magically unravelled) and when I returned a third, the boutique owner said that she was not surprised as many people had returned items from the line and that her shop would not be ordering again. I'm not rough on my clothes and used these as occassional pieces-I'm pretty disgusted.

^That's weird. I've been washing my pieces ( a wrap and a blouse) for over a year with no problems. The material she uses is very soft and durable. I plan to buy more when the sale prices are low enough.

I'm frankly surprised that you would own any pieces from Lauren's line pinkpalm since I don't think you've ever said anything positive about Lauren or her style and a few pages ago you said her clothes were subpar in inspiration and quality.

I'm bummed that her summer items won't be shipped! I loved the floral pattern and the rosette cami!!! She is a smart girl and I don't think she would be taking such a long time off from designing if she didn't have something else in the works so I'm really not that worried about her. Although for spring, I thought her pricing was ridiculous. . . maybe (knowing it would be put on sale right away) she overpriced it purposely?

I've heard that the items wash very well and are made very well! I don't think stores would continue to order her collection (and sell out of it!) if the items were poorly made. Which wrap do you have? I really regret not buying the Katherine wrap.

I've bought the gemma cocoon wrap, leggings and another blouse from her line and have washed them so many times, yet it still looks like new. My bcbg jersey dress has a hole in it after a few washes and I bought it after I purchased the jersey items from Lauren's line.:innocent:

^ I've had the same problem with bcbg! It's so frustrating! Did you bought anything from her hautelook sample sales? If so, how long did shipping take?

After owning it I can say that! I bought when the line first came out. Thanks for questioning me...

Me too, I have the gabrielle skirt and two other tops and still looks great after so many machine wash. Her clothes are good quality thats for sure.

I guess she's going to go thru with a cheaper line for Khols... She posted in her myspace page that she went to Milwaukee... and that is where their headquaters are located. I was hoping she would pass on it since their stuff are cheap looking and whatnot... the money must have been too good to pass up.

I dare to say that she's talented but she still needs to learn A LOT. The launching of her brand came too soon but maybe in some years she could be great. I don't know. She seems talented but that talent is still developing.
