She didn't lose the buyers. She always said Viacom owned her line, but it was only a two year thing, after that she'd be responsible for financing herself or finding another buyer.
NYMag has always been so bitchy about her, their dislike is so transparent. She never said she was going to go high-end, she just said she'd use better quality fabrics, which would mean her clothes would have to be made abroad and not in the U.S. - that's the only way to cut costs.

Lauren Conrad's clothing line is temporarily hold on hold, her rep confirms to Usmagazine.com.
"She is taking a hiatus, but the line still exists and will continue," her rep tells Us. "The sales of her line in the first year doubled what was projected. However, in light of the economy, it's a good time for Lauren to take a few seasons off to re-work her still budding line.
"She will look over the past seasons to determine what worked and what didn't work so that she may design clothing that will appeal to her fans," the rep continues.
