Lauren Conrad Dropped by MTV

this is indicative of how all of these creative industries work. while mtv may never air the show and may even sell it to a lesser network at a loss, lauren conrad still gets to pocket her share of the money. one would be surprised at the copious amounts of scripts, options, pilots, development deals, photo shoots, etc. that just fall by the wayside this way.

Boo-hoo, Jersey Shore favored and Conrad's show isn't. Come on, it's not like Cate Blanchet's style diary was dropped, it's the show by a former cast member of a show as empty and vapid as anything that's currently featured in that network. And what does this girl know about style really? her books may be a hit among mall-addicted, omg-vogue-is-my-bible "~fashionistas~" but I'm not sure the world is really missing anything.. or that she has anything to say or shows us about fashion, except for how to match a 'cute' dress and some 'cute' pumps for a night-out after putting a ton of concealer on your face.. I couldn't help to roll my eyes at her statement, poor girl.. time to get known for what you do and not for how you allegedly do it or how you look doing it.

The show was documentary-style rather than faux-reality and was to follow Lauren's business endeavors including building her self-financed fashion line from scratch. I don't find anything about that to be vapid or empty and that's clearly why it didn't make the cut with MTV who'd rather see more catfighting, backstabbing, and hot-tub orgies.

Of course not being a fan of Lauren's you won't miss anything but for the rest of us there is a dearth of programming centered on young women with career ambitions who have goals beyond getting drunk at the next party. If you look at women the reality landscape there is nothing but pregnant teenagers, Snooki getting drunk every week, bickering Real Housewives and the Kardashians whose "careers" consist of providing diet "secrets" to tabloids every week, doing nudie photoshoots and turning up on every red carpet under the sun to promote any product by any company whose checks don't bounce.

I think Lauren's show would be a nice respite from the current representation of women on reality tv and hope it gets picked up by another network.

^I actually agree with everything you said, Loladonna!

I think in theory Lauren's show could have been great and present younger women in a different light on reality tv. It could be inspirational to watch her set out and make it in the fashion industry without the usual antics that drive reality tv like already mentioned nude pictures, sex tapes, emotional breakdowns, bad boyfriends, etc...

However, the show has to be entertaining for it to draw viewers and bring advertising dollars. From the few pics we got of her filming, it didn't look like it was going to be an entertaining show nor give us a great view inside the fashion industry. I mean who cares about the LA fashion scene... if Lauren wanted to make a good show and launch a decent line... she would have moved to NYC part-time... partner with people who actually know something about the fashion industry... but she cannot move out of her comfort zone and leave her 'friends'...

I am still shocked that MTV dropped it all together... I thought she would get at least an 8-10 episode season and they would not renew it because of poor ratings or whatever. It must have been THAT bad imo because Lauren has been great to MTV and by all accounts she can still sell. Who knows... MTV could have saved her from an embarrassement.

Also, I never thought her show should be on MTV to begin with... Bravo, Style network and even oxygen would be better options IMO... and would accept lower ratings. But she still has to come up with a great show...

Honestly, I'm not interested much in "the scene". The City tried to do that in a faux-reality context and it failed. I was more curious about the nuts and bolts of building a fashion line--picking the fabrics, fitting the samples, selling to potential buyers ..etc. I feel like there hasn't been a show that gives us that insight. Unfortunately, that type of show would only appeal to hardcore fashionistas so it definitely wouldn't be a good fit for MTV.

I think the show was dropped for precisely the reason Lauren said-- she refused to add personal drama. All of MTVs hit shows center around personal relationship drama. Would MTV audiences want to watch workplace drama as opposed to someone fighting because their boyfriend hit on another girl?

..."What goes up must come down." ^_^

The "reality show" puppets are all exchangeable.

I agree 100%. Lauren clearly stated that they wanted more personal (faux) drama from her and Lauren said from the moment she quit the hills that she would not participate in reality tv again unless it would be on her terms. I don't watch MTV and being a huge Lauren fan and a fan of fashion, I would find a show that centered on the ups and downs of what it's really like to start a fashion line (fabrics, model fittings, design inspiration, meeting with buyers, preparing for a fashion show or trade show, fixing mistakes, marketing the line, the logo/branding aspect, trying to get your line seen on celebrities and in magazines, etc. . . ) very entertaining and interesting.

I guess I'm not cool enough for MTV because I don't find Jersey Shore, Teen Mom, or Skins to be entertaining, I find it to be purely trash and degrading to teenagers and young adults who may aspire to be like those reality stars. A lot of Lauren fans would tune in just to support her and I know that a lot of young women (and men) who are interested in the fashion industry may tune in to a show that really gives a true look at what it's like to do something from the ground up like this. Of course if you don't like Lauren and have no interest in working in fashion someday, the show's subject matter would not be "entertaining".

I am so thankful that her show will not be on MTV, but am kind of disappointed she wanted it to be there in the first place.

Dear Lauren,

We're sorry to inform you your life isn't f'ed up enough to interest our viewers.

Congratulations,
MTV

P.S. If you want to be a "star", do what Lohan does.

I admire her for sticking to her principles, I was a bit sceptical when she said she was doing the show with MTV but IA with her fans; it would be better if it was on another network.

Also there's no point getting pissed off at MTV, they know what their "audience" wants and its train wreck shows like Jersey Shore and Teen Mom that make you feel better about your own life and/or grateful for what and who you have in your life.

At this stage in her career and who she has chosen to be (read: not the trashy reality girl) -- she is much better suited for Bravo or Lifetime.

I personally vote for the style network or Bravo...

She also needs to film in NYC A LOT...

i really hope another network picks it up... i will be so devo'd if we never see it :(
i've heard mtv's contracts can be quite restrictive, i hope it can be aired elsewhere

i dont really feel like she was really into it.
i feel that they beg her,and she was like okay, just as long as it has nothing to do with my personal life.she seem sick of showing her personal live.

good on lo if that's true! it does seem like she's the only one left from the hills cast with a good head on her shoulders, and if she doesn't feel comfortable with displaying her personal life so openly all for the sake of a fashion-centered show, i'm sure she'll have no problem selling it to another network :)

^I agree. Most reality stars faced with the possibility of their show being dropped would have happily gone back to stage some personal drama. I like that Lauren stuck to her guns. I'm sure MTV thought they could strong-arm her into making another Hills but she called their bluff and walked instead.

She's too classy for MTV. It's a shame what that channel has become. I don't watch it all anymore. Maybe Lauren can do something with Bravo. They could use a fashion-themed show since Rachel Zoe is focusing on having a baby. The Style network as someone suggested would be good too. They probably would be the best fit.

Sad turn of events. MTV is trash tv anyways and Lauren has not only outgrown them, but is better than them now. I agree with everyone that suggested a different network. I hope this happens!
