The level of drama in the whole drag act just reminded me of alot of fashion I've been looking at lately...and I feel alot of the drama is overlooked because people are busy seeking 'tasteful and underated designers' as much as I enjoy some of the more down to earth designs I think it's important to admire alot of the architecture that goes into creating some of the dresses and the sheer flamboyance of it all. I think I might go out in 'drag' one day...I'd probably be the right height and quite believable as one a woman dressed as a man dressing as a woman

that reminds me of 'Victor & Victoria' - which is a nice little indie movie, about a woman in the twenties who becomes the attraction of a night club (in berlin I think) because she plays a man who plays a woman. of course all the vistors think she is a man dressing as a woman.
anyway it is a very fine movie about cross dressing and trans/gender identity and so on

yeah I would say it is the point acid, they're meant to be totally over the top...as you see it's not the same for transvestites...well purposefully anyways, but i doubt the drag queens are slapping on all that eyeshadow and think they look 'demure'

Netflix said that the original Hairspray was only streaming through the 19th. Decided to watch it. Looks as though Travolta as the mother was not just for shiits and giggles!

Divine plays the mother in Hairspray. yummy. He does not disappoint.

There is something incredibly sexy about a man comfortable enough to wear women's clothing.

Yes they dress over the top because it is stage nake up. I used to know a bunch. Sadly by the early 90s in Washington DC at least the drag queen corps was decimated by aids. I remember "Donner Summer" had to retire and AIDs went into remission so she came and did "Last Dance" at an event and collapsed during the song. It was soooo very sad. Now many are fat and lazy. Nothing worse that a 350 drag queen dressed cheaply/lazily. Back in the days and I am telling my age the first I went to see was in abou 1977. Up through the 90s if they did a Cher song then they dressed like Cher- Also black women did not do Cher songs because Cher is white. They took pride in their songs and spent fortunes on wardtobes. I remember back in 80s and 90s they had 2 big pagents at the DC convention center. Who ever won got a crown and they got to wear for a year. Then they were officially a drag queen. As you can imagine there was always lots of drama. Anyway... most queens retired about early 30s- as the said- "Nothing worse than an old drag queen".

oh and they would spend several hundred dollars on gowns. The others that were not in the competition, just in audience did not wear really heavy make up.

Here and there you can find videos of national competition pagents. The most recent one I saw was several uyears old and winner would make about 50K that year as winner touring the country. Here is a link that tells a bit of history.

It talks about fashion "houses" sub groups and these were like fasmilies when one member would be in competition then others helped. It was very time consuming because every Sunday was a show. This is different from the Sat. night shows at gay bars. Part of reason to have houses is to help each other, but also to provide a family atmosphere. Surprisingly draq queens are not always appreciated in the gay comunity because well gay guys like guys not girls so there was some ostrization of them so they would tend to stick together. Most were very sweet like "RG" real girl, some had rather nasty tempers . HAHAHA.... as you can imagiine. It sort of seems to be rather like a Marine- you are cut out to be one or not, they were all a bit driven from inside to be one. Strangly enough lots are not cross dresses like straight men in that they did not wear it as a fetish or many never had before getting into the scene.
