Linda Evangelista

sorry to Linda's fans but this must be her worst VI cover and what a shame it is an anniversary one... love Linda but not these cover... to be honest all 6 are quite a mess...

What's amazing about Linda is how she could transform: she could really do almost any look, which made her a superlative model.

She's still beautiful too.

"IT WAS LIKE CRYSTAL, LIKE CHAMPAGNE CORKS POPPING," STEVEN MEISEL TOLD VOGUE OF MEETING HIS MUSE. HERE HE SHARES THE DUO'S GREATEST HITS, AND EVANGELISTA TALKS TO FAMED EDITOR CARLYNE CERF DE DUDZEELE

CCD How are you darling?
Linda Evangelista So good!

CCD How is your holiday going?
LE Very good, yes.

CCD So we have to speak about this layout of Steven and you.
LE Yes!

CCD Alors… tell me…
LE I saw the layout! It’s so good.

CCD Yes! It’s so so good. Perfection. So tell me, how did you meet Mr. Meisel?
LE Well I was booked from Paris direct and I flew in for one of those famous American Vogue sittings during the Grace Mirabella days and on those shootings there were always multiple models and I was one of many.

CCD I remember this!
LE That’s right, you were there. And I remember thinking oh gosh I hope he likes me! Because I like his work so much. And you finally got me dressed and to the set and he asked me if I could walk over a mark and hit the mark with a big stride. I said well yeah of course I can! And you guys were all talking my knees and my legs and I was freaking out because I was teased my whole life about my knees and my legs and I thought you were making fun of me but in fact you liked them—

CCD Yes! We loved les jambes du Evangelos!
LE Yeah! And that was the beginning.

CCD I remember this was the first time we worked with Steven.
LE That was my first shoot.

CCD This was one of the best stories ever! The black with the clear lucite jewelry. C’etait sublime!
LE Yes it was very fresh!

CCD And I remember that we finished doing everything on you. Perhaps one or two photos with the others but we did everything else on you! It was one of the best stories ever. And still is perfection! Nothing démodé there at all.
LE And then he started working with me all the time and I just loved working with him because it was so easy. You know he helped me, and photographers they don’t help you sometimes! They throw you on the set sometimes and they say go! I mean—

CCD Me, when I work with girls now I know absolutely if they have passed by the hands of Mr. Meisel or no. If they have passed through him they know what to do, if not they have no idea what to do. And no one has taught them anything. Nothing, just Steven teaches the girls.
LE I know. You can feel so lonely on the set sometimes, and you get there and you can end up making yourself so insecure, but with him he helps you so much. There’s no one I would rather be directed by.

CCD Absolut! And he knows everything. He knows fashion, hair, makeup—everything!
LE Everything! And you feel safe.

CCD Totally. This sitting was the best. Love, love, love! And we still love it. We were speaking about this the other night, and he’s still in love with this story. I must say it was a good one.
LE It was a good one.

CCD We have done so much together! Good times with Mr. Meisel. And we still do.
LE I know. The last one ended in the… the cha-cha-cha… the…

CCD Merde! What is it? Not the tango, not the salsa…
LE No, not salsa… the… oh my god!

CCD The MAMBO!
LE The mambo!

CCD YES! You were marvelous at this!
LE Yes I took Mambo lessons before.

CCD Because you are a pro, my dear Evangelos! I don't know who else would do this.
LE And the fact that we had a live band, I mean… that was so good.

CCD This is why everything is good with you, Steven… we are close! Close. Okay?
LE Okay.

CCD Big kiss darling! When are you back?
LE Oh that’s all we need?

CCD I think so darling! Because the thing is small.
LE Yeah, okay. Well if you think we have a blurb in there I’m happy.

CCD Oh, I think we have. What else, did you want to talk about something else?
LE No, no I’m good.

CCD No I think this is best.
LE Yes.

CCD Okay when are you back, Linda?
LE Sunday.

CCD Okay, call me.
LE What are you doing now?

CCD I still have to work for two stories but after I’m leaving and I don’t know where and I don’t know what so call me when you can so we can meet.
LE Okay, I will call you.

CCD Big kiss darling! Ciao.

WHEN LINDA EVANGELISTA WALKED ON WATER Photographer through the pages Arthur Elgort was surprised what Linda would do for a double page

In the autumn of 1993, celebrated fashion photographer Arthur Elgort accompanied stylist Grace Coddington and supermodel Linda Evangelista down the Li River in Guangxi, China, for a five-day shoot in mountainous terrain. An acrobat was hired to stand on a local Chinese guide’s makeshift raft next to the then 28-year-old Evangelista, a panoramic shot Elgort envisioned to include the sweeping Karst mountains. But as Elgort explains to us, his plan was foiled.
“We wanted to show the mountains in China because they are spectacular. It was a special image because we had a guy there who was kind of an acrobat, but he couldn’t do it – he couldn’t stand up on the raft. Grace (Coddington) was devastated when she found out that standing up on this boat couldn’t be done. Linda was getting dressed and Grace was going, ‘What am I going to do? This picture is so important to me. We need to take it.’ Linda said, ‘Don’t worry Grace, as long as you get me a double page, I’m going to do it.’ The acrobat said it couldn’t be done because she’d fall in the water – he said, ‘You know it’s like a tightrope?’ If you look at the picture, the raft is not very wide.
Linda said, ‘I can do that easy, if it’s a double page. I won’t do it if it’s a single page.’ So we said, ‘Okay, Linda, it’s a double page – we promise you.’ Linda did it easily and everybody was like, ‘How did you do that, Linda?’ She said, ‘With a double page you can do anything!’ I thought that was so funny.

LINDA SAID, ‘I CAN DO THAT EASY, IF IT’S A DOUBLE PAGE. I WON’T DO IT IF IT’S A SINGLE PAGE.’ SO WE SAID, ‘OKAY, LINDA, IT’S A DOUBLE PAGE – WE PROMISE YOU.’
Linda is a great model, we were lucky to have her. She had just got out of the hospital because she had a collapsed lung, but she said, ‘I want to shoot. I’ll feel good, don’t worry.’ Linda is just that kind of girl – when she wants something to get a good picture, she’ll do it. That’s why I like her so much.
I discovered a lot of the supermodels, so they were very nice to me. When I shot Linda the first time in Paris, she had long hair and she was not famous at all. Then she cut her hair off and became a star. She was a good model, but I had her first. You know, when you have them first they’re very nice to you because they remember you. You gave them a break.”

Linda would never just settle for a giant contract and call it a day. You can tell she really wanted to be great and create iconic work.

Just the two of us! Newly single Linda Evangelista steps out with the only man she needs in her life... her son Augustin.

She's newly single after splitting from her boyfriend of six years, Hard Rock Cafe founder Peter Morton.
However, there's one male in her life Canadian supermodel Linda Evangelista can rely on - her son Augustin.
The brunette star was spotted this week out and about whilst holidaying in Monaco with her only child.

Watch your step! Linda Evangelista helps her six year-old son navigate an escalator in Monaco
The 48-year-old certainly looked at ease with her new single status.
The model who uttered the now immortal line 'I never get out of bed for less than $10,000 a day' during her heyday in 1990, looked like a true earth mother in her floor length Kaftan.
It appeared that she was wearing minimal, if any, make-up but she still looked bright and fresh-faced.

Mother Earth: Linda looked relaxed and happy as she made her way through the exclusive resort
She finished off her bohemian look with thong style sandals and a little white bag.
At one point she also wore a sun hat to keep her head out of the Mediterranean sun and had sunglasses around her neck.

Larking around: the supermodel seemed to be making a game out of riding the escalator with her little boy
The single mother is believed to be vacationing on a friend's yacht and judging by her slightly damp hair and the bikini top she was clearly wearing underneath her kaftan she had recently been enjoying a dip.
Linda conceived the six year-old in 2006 during a fling with billionaire Francois-Henri Pinault.
Pinault left Linda whilst she was pregnant and shortly after began a relationship with actress Salma Hayek.

Razor sharp cheekbones: The supermodel shows off the bone structure that made her famous as she strolls along the promenade
Hayek also went on to fall pregnant to the billionaire and their daughter was born just a year after Linda gave birth to Augustin.
Linda and Francois-Henri fell into a bitter child support row during which the model's lawyers claimed the Frenchman had demanded she seek an abortion upon discovering she was pregnant.
The feud was eventually settled for an undisclosed sum.
