Loewe Men's S/S 2021 Paris

Really grateful for this collection considering how watered down everyone else is...but not that I blame them...

More like Jonathan Miyake with all the shibori dying and the hoops in hems and cuffs in some knits. Although the circle capes remind me of those circular skirts Kawakubo did for S/S 04...

I like the colors and that it's not accesorized to hell and beyond. The clothes have enough space to breathe.

He gave out the pattern to do the multicolor oversized shirt but that's still a hard no from me.

I did stream many of the activities and discussions Loewe uploaded throughout the day, Josh O'Connor flirting with Anderson and all. Maybe for the women's show will have a knitting class from Jodie Comer...

To be honest menswear is in a less than creative state these days so this collection is very welcome even though you can see Jonathan's influences. There's just a lot of pieces I would buy if I had that kind of money, simple as that for me.

Come again? :brows:

I love how unaccessible Loewe is as an aesthetic!
My snobbish self just loves the fact that there’s still a brand that is part of a big conglomerate and that can deliver this type of hyper elitist, barely produced clothes.
I don’t know any man who would buy it but I just love the fact that despite the success, Loewe has maintained a certain level of creative integrity that prevent them to have lines of hypebeasts waiting for a pair of sneakers or co-branded items.

Buying Loewe still means subscribing to an aesthetic.

What a breath of fresh air! I have so much respect for Anderson's work ethic and ethos. In an industry that often feels like everyone is copying everyone else, he has consistently stayed true to himself. At Loewe, it's been really interesting seeing him push boundaries and experiment each season. It really does have a couture quality to it now.

There are definitely some fantastic ideas even if this is probably his most impractical collection to date. It definitely ventures into the realm of costume or museum material. I will be interested to see how this will translate to stores.

What about JW Cardin?

Yes, there are also Miyake and Cardin influences! Is JW Anderson able to create something of his own??

Lol, make of it what you will, but I'm currently busy knitting the Harry Styles jumper that the Tik Tok kids went mad about a few weeks ago.
Though most of them can't even pronounce Loewe correctly, I find the way Jonathan engages with the youth so interesting because he doesn't excessively pander to them like Gucci, nor are the brands he work for on their ultra-cool radar like Virgil/Balenciaga. It seems more organic. The Harry Styles patchwork cardigan craze didn't happen because of Loewe, but because of how great the piece seemed to them. And maybe Harry's cult of course. But going forward they'll be keeping their eyes on him.
As for Josh, picked up on that flirting as well and it just confirms my suspicion about him. That he's very much an 'actor'. He'll talk bloke stuff in GQ and hipster cool in Fantastic Man. And if it means he'll have to flirt with Jonathan to keep his Loewe sponsorship going, that's what he'll do. Nothing wrong with it. This sort of game is as old as the hills and probably the reason why Penn hated shooting celebrities. Because all of them have that thick layer of facade.

Usually you there are clear boundaries between Jonathan's collections for his own brand and for Loewe, but not this time around. It seems like we are getting just another iteration of the lines he dropped over the past 2 weeks. Yes, it's good and possibly the strongest I've seen from him recently, but it doesn't hit the mark for me.

I do like what he did with these two looks though.....

At least, his influences goes beyond Raf Simons, Margiela and Helmut Lang.
If read another designer naming them as his influence,I give up on fashion!

I think what is great is that those particular influences of JW push him technically.

And add Bonnie Cashin as well, several seasons ago...I can only see J.W. Anderson as an overrated serial copyist. He just blends his copies with a country/artisanal/DIY style...and that´s all!
