No, fees for international students are always more...I guess that is another way universities make their money.

But fees for EU-students and UK-students are equal. But I don't think that EU-students are seen as International Students.

yeah if you have an EU passport you don't pay 3 times more like us international students do

It is how they make their money. It was in the Guardian recently, how universities are more likely to accept international students such as those from China, America, Japan, etc - because they make more money than they would from those that are non-international.

yeah i know  and don't forget the short courses....300 quid for a 2-day course, etc...

i once asked my teacher in uni about it and he told me the same thing....and that those short courses should be called "tourist-courses"

I took a couple of evening classes (one at St.Martins and the other at LCF) i think they are good if you want to get a taster and see if it's a course you want to pursue. Nothing wrong with that. Yes, international students pay a lot more. It sucks but it's the same everywhere when the univeristy is a public institution. I didn't find that it got me accepted more places though. I got turned down for crappy programs up North and had an interview and got accepted at LCF. I chose not to go in the end though because of the money.

yeah i think that if you're in doubt it's a great opportunity cos it helps you decide what you wanna do. but if you're already a fashion student i don't think it would be very helpful
you were accepted in the foundation program? i was as well, starting in september, but i'm still not over the whole LCF x CSM debate

k i need help...i even PMed someone in the thread about the BA womenswear

i got in the foundation course at LCF but my first choice was really CSM, based on what everybody already knows, the reputation (overrated or not, it's pretty well known here in brazil!). the interviewer said i had no chance of getting in CSM cos it was super competitive but he offered me a spot in LCF. i was just wondering if the level's really that different or CSM is all about the hype...also i'm already in a fashion uni here, it's supposidely more technical, and i've heard LCF is pretty technical as well...do they give any emphasis on criativity at all??

mehhh help me decide please!!

Congratulations! LCF is still a very good school. Sure CSM has the reputation, but at foundation level, I dont think there is too much a difference in standard. At LCF you will only get Fashion related students/subjects, while at CSM there is Fine Art, Visual Communication, 3D Design, and of course, Fashion and Textiles.
Have you read the CSM thread? I wrote about the CSM founation a while ago that might be useful.
But yeah, at degree level, CSM is VERY competitive and extremely hard to get into, but so is LCF! I know lots of people who haven't got a place in either place.
But on another note, lots of people at LCF and CSM foundation dont go on to a degree at the same schools. I know CSM students who didnt get into a degree at CSM (ie ME!), but there are really talented LCF students who did.
So, really, don't hesitate to go to LCF. It's just different, and who knows, you may it in better there.
Also, LCF will teach you pattern making on their foundation, but CSM dont.

fyi the program i was talking about was the buying and merchandising program.

If i was taking a foundation program I would probably do it at that place in South London....i forget what it's called but Maria Cornejo went there. It has a long name. starts with an r or something. anyway honestly a lot of fashion students are so up their own a*ses....i think to determine the difference you just need to go and see which campus and students you prefer

Do you mean Ravensbourne College? I haven't heard anything fashion related about it, except Maria Cornejo, and a couple of years ago there was a stand out among the graduates.. can't remember who though.

yes literally as i was re-entering the thread i remembered the name of it. I've heard several good things about it and quite frankly I like that it's set a bit away from the 'hustle' of the london fashion scene. I just like the ethos of the school and it seems really welcoming, which is a change. Honestly both the CSM and LCF campuses are kind...gross. The doors to the main LCF building is nice but the actually building is housed just behind John Lewis on oxford st. and like a lot of london buildings has a bad run down 70's vibe to it. same with CSM. It's not like a modern campus with lots of pretty buildings and nice computer labs and things.

hey thanks for the advice! :flower:so you did the foundation program and didn't get in the degree or you just went somewhere else? cos i dunno, i'm pretty scared of doing the foundation in LCF and not being accepted there afterwards (eventho i've been told that once you finish the foundation you can apply to any UAL college but you have more chances of getting in the one you did the foundation)
also, that's great about the pattern making thing, it's one of my main interests!

You're welcome =) Yeah, I didn't get into CSM, but I'm quite happy going to LCF now. I was thinking about declining the offer and applying to CSM again through Route B, but after one my tutors raved about the LCF course, and how the menswear is better than CSM (that's coming from a CSM tutor!), I decided to accept. Though I hate to say it, it IS really up to you. How you make of it, and whether you really have what it takes.

yeah, I do understand what you're saying.. but for me, I love being in the London.. it's all part of the experience, and not to mention a huge soure of inspiration! I personally love the grungy rundown atmosphere at Charing Cross, wedged in between bookstores, Soho sex shops and Chinatown haha.. As for LCF on JPS, I would both love and hate having to travel through the Oxford St madness... But as far as I know, most of the BA design courses at LCF take place at their Curtain Rd campus which is near Brick Lane in East London. Shoreditch twats and curry houses all just a stride away.. don't get more inspiring than that!

Anyone know about the Northumbria?~I am thinking about this Sch and LCF too.....Northumbria sound pretty Good...

I am interested in a postgraduate certificate in buying and merchandising at LCF. Is this title well considered in the fashion retail industry?
Thanks

Hello everyone. I'm asking on behalf of a friend. I don't think anyone ever answered this question from mai2, and my friend would be very interested to know people's thoughts on this. In general, what is the fashion industry's take on postgraduate certificates from LCF. Thanks :D

I'm a art history major and wanna transfer into a different major like fashion journalism or marketing.
