London College of Fashion

oh i see, thank you all for responding! :flower:

i knew before hand that LCF is more triditional, where as CSM is more creative. about the rumor i head on LCF being not creative stimulating enough, is it true?

i ll go check out LCF someday and i ll apply there or something. what is the intership there like? is it as (suposingly)"prestigious" as csm's internships?
i would really like to intern on savile row or something XD

CSM is moving to king's cross in 2011, to what seems like a very modern and pretty building and LCF is moving to elephant & castle with LCC.

Looks like the international student's fees are finally getting put into something!!

Oxford Circ IS a nightmare. I hate navigating around slow tourists on Oxford st. Grrrr....

But E&C is worse---those urine stenched subways....

If you want to be a designer, go to CSM. If you want to be a maker, go to LCF. Trust me.

how about i want to be both  i dont see how one can work without the other. but anyways, being able to make come first. when i say make, i mean making clothes properly. that's why i try avoiding learning making clothes on my own, gonna end up with loads of bad habits. experiment is great and all, but gotta know the rules before i can break them.

so, i was wondering if anyone know anything about LCF's BA Bespoke Tailoring course and their BA men's wear...

E&C will be going under a huge renovation so I wouldn't take how it looks right now as how it will always look. E&C is way more accessible than Oxford St. anyway. Really in the end it depends more on you and your business ability than either school. Some people go to one and are successful, some people go to the other and are successful, some go to neither and are successful.

Did anyone apply? I applied to the Fashion Promotion course, keeping my fingers crossed

does anyone do fashon portfolio at LCF??...i'm thinking about applying and want to know what its like...

I don't know if it's too late to reply, but I did Fashion Portfolio last year and I think it's a good course. without it I probably wouldn't have got onto the fda I'm doing now.

basically the main focus of the course is fashion design all through out the term, but you also do photography, pattern cutting, business, make up, styling, and photoshop. I must add that make-up and styling are options-you pick them in your 2nd or 3rd term (I can't remember).

you also have the compact scheme which gives you and interview first with lcf and all the other UAL uni's before anyone else which imo you have a better chance of getting onto a course this way (even though womenswear is still very hard to get onto)

thanks for replying, i ended up applying to fashion business diploma instead, what are you doing now? is it easy to get into a BA course after a Diploma, or do you have to do a foundation?

I'm doing an FdA in Designer pattern cutter.

It's not that easy to get into a BA but it is possible, you just have to work really hard-but then again some courses are easier to get onto.

I did want to do a BA in womenswear but I wasn't ready for the rejection so my fashion portfolio tutor introduced me to this course which if I do well enough in, I can do an extra year in womenswear and get a BA honour

I'm happy to hear that you're so positive about the course! I applied for it this year and I have been invited for an interview. I'm a bit nervous about it, because I don't know what to expect. Could you tell me something about your experiences? Like, what do they ask you about? And do they expect you to have a lot of work to show them already? Anything really, I'd love to hear about it. :)

sidewalk_snob - what do you learn in 'designer pattern cutter'? basic cutting or creative cutting? it sounds very interesting! is it a one year course?

im thinking of taking BA Bespoke Tailoring for sure.
LCF seems to have very good equipments and machines

Is anyone already doing/applying for the Fashion Management course? I'll be applying for 2009 entry later this year.

I applied this year, more out of wishful thinking because me AS grades where awful, I girl I spoke to had an interview for that course last month, very competitive. They had to complete a Maths test and if they didn't pass the Maths test they didn't even get an interview they just had to go home. It looks a really good course, good luck.

i'm studying foundation right now ^_^. basically, keep it as diverse as possible. eventhough it is a fashion school it's still an arts and design course! i've done very little fashion projects this year. i started the year doing paper samples and later on, a paper dress. after that it became pretty abstract. we're given little projects and the outcomes are most of the times up to you.
so i would say, just show a wide variety of media (don't be afraid to experiment), some fashion drawings sure, but mostly life drawings, illustrations, photos of something 3d that you've done, moodboards (they LOVE moodboards, especially in the pathway i'm in now, Image), development boards, maybe if you have a sketchbook or two??
good luck :flower:

Hey thanks for answering my Q :)

Would it be okay submitting like 6 different projects..and for each different project there would be 3 boards...research/development/final outcome? I'm clueless :innocent:

I think you need at least 20 boards..at least. so yeah those projects sound okay but try and add quite a bit of life/still drawing as well!!

good luck!

I'm thinking about taking a short course at LCF in the summertime, anyone with any experiences? Good/bad?

omg, I'm sorry I didn't reply sooner I haven't checked this board in a while. to be honest, sometimes you can get on the FP course based on your personality.

Take whatever you can just to show your ability seeing as it's an FE course they're not expecting you to have a portfolio already.

I just took with me some (really rubbish) drawings and a jacket, that I had made at school, a project I was working on at college, and a skirt I had made for my little sister. the head of the course interviewed me (she came across as scary but turned out to be really nice).

I can't remember what she asked me exactly but the two things I rmember her asking me were who my favourite designer was (don't say anyone obvious like Versace-do your research), and what kind of music I listen to. I think she also asked me where I see myself when in the future but I might be getting it mixed up with something else.

In the first term they do go over basic cutting, but it's stuff that some people would have touched on before the course. at the point where I'm at (I'm heading towards my 3rd semester of my 1st year) they really want/encourage you to experiment with creative cutting.

Bespoke tailoring sounds good.
I've suddenly developed an interest in tailoring, I might pick it up as an elective next year.

I have an interview for the access to fashion business programme, in two weeks. I'm a little nervous, there will be a 20 minute english test, and 2minute maths test. There will also be a group interview, probably the bit i'm most nervous about.

Anyway the letter i recieved from LCF said, Shepards Bush line is undergoing refurbishment, and I am pretty damn blonde when it comes to naviagting the underground, so I was hoping somebody who goes to LCF Limes Grove, can give me some good direction from Marylebone station. Thanks. xx
