I am thinking of attending the college in the future, anyone go there?
what is it like? how are the tution fees? i'm thinking of doing BA in Menswear but i'd like to to womenswear aswell..is there a great deal of drawing involved? xxx

I find the LCF is quite expensive in terms of tuition fees. For an international student anyway. It's about £9500 tuition fees. I didn't think they did a menswear program? As far as I know, only CSM does menswear? Could be wrong though. It's a good school in terms of management courses and things but it just bothers me that it's smack dab in these old 70's style buildings off oxford circus. too too busy for 4 years of my life.

LCF MA Fashion Curation

Hello there,

I already did the BA in fashion design at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Utrecht in the Netherlands and now I work at the Centraal Museum Utrecht as a guide for the fashion exhibitions as nowadays: global fashion/local tradition.
Now I like going to London to do the MA Fashion Curation at the London College of Fashion.
I already ordered the prospectus but I am very curious if someone here is following this postgraduate course or does someone know somebody who can tell me more about this course?

I am currently studying at LCF. this school is great. the building on Oxfor street is not old. it is preety nice inside. its even go it's own space for a fashion show. long AND big. they do offer menswear.

Anybody know the BA fashion management course in LCf ?is it good comparing with other similar courses?

I did the BA in Menswear at LCF and I can def recomend the course. In my year there were 9 womenswear classes but only *one* menswear class,and that was divided into casual and tailoring. Therefore the tutorship was much more individual and you got more help. Plus the classroom was never that crowded and getting hold of a tutor for some help was easier than in the womensear classes.
a degree from LCF has def helped me but I would make sure that fashion is def what you want to do. I regret doing fashion now and wish I had done textiles instead. Once you graduate, you'll see how many people do fashion at degree level. Now that I've spent a few years in the industry I wish I had had a course that was more technical to fabrics. With a textiles degree there is still the element of design and I think it is more higher regarded as its more technical. Doing fashion you'll find some people may write you off as an air-head. Maybe its just my experience...
Before you apply to menswear make sure you know if you want to do tailoring or the casual part. This will help you look a lot more focused, plus it shows you've done your research into how LCF works.
the LCF menswear class was good fun and there was always a mix of girls and boys, skaters, rock chics, Saville Row hopefuls...

The LCF menswear class has always won awards and regularly wins over the Central Saint Martins Menswear BA class. We also always get menswear students into Graduate week and the year I graduated it was from my menswear class who won Student Designer of the Year.

I'm thinking about one day going there aswell it's in such a convient place too; Fashion Puss thanx for the advice about doing Textiles instead of fashion, I never even would have thought about it otherwise!

With the interview season coming up I was wondering what the various intereviews were like? Did you dress how you normall would or a bit smart? What sort of questions did they ask you? Any advice?

I think a combination of the both. Make an effort but don't look like you emptied topshop! If you're going for the design BA don't go in a black suit - boring! Have a good handbag would be my recomendation, with a cool outfit. I personally wouldn't wear jeans. But a nice trendy outfit that smart but not too much.

The questions they asked me were:
1. Who inspires you the most?
2. Why?
3. Who do you think has it completly right on the high street - why?
4. Which collection has had an impression upon you the most? i.e. f/w 2004 Alexander McQueen (then describe something that made its mark on you)
5. Any specialist talents eg. embroidery, handsewing, talioring etc. How would you incorporate it into your design work.
6. Any fabrics you really like to work with
7. Work you do in your spare time (eg. scrap books, photography, handsewing)
8. Any experiments you like to do eg. smocking onto alternative fabrics like paper touch cotton etc

Its pretty obvious stuff, the above is for design courses mainly. For the BA, they will really come down on you on extra curricular stuff and your knowledge of designers (name some indie ones too (Willow, Sass and Bide, Lisa Ho etc- they love that) It must get a bit dull hearing "Oh I just looove Gucci" 30 times a day!
Oh yeah, talk about the previous Fashion Weeks (NY, London and Paris and say what stood out to you the most)

are'nt you applying for CSM this year?

i went to all the open days went in with people that i knew allready studdied there and they gave me the guided tour - i just wasnt impressed with the work or the tutors however the equipment and facilities they have are amaizing!

Does anyone know how many places there are for the lcf menswear ba?

Are the classes very large?

Also, how does it compare to the menswear at csm?

I've always thought csm was better, prestigious def, but I've been hearing a lot about how for menswear, lcf is a lot better.

Any info would be great!
