London College of Fashion

.. and, yes, I love Britney too!! There was a time when my only dream for when I grew up was to track her down and marry her! It wouldn't even be that hard to achieve now either! :woot:

I always hope that every time I visit the States, I would see her! If I saw her, I would want to give her a hug! Lol!

I actually liked the enviroment, it does have a buzz. You can really see the excitement on the student faces and I did not find them to be pretentious like individuals might think. It is the overall campuses that are not great...there is no great student union bar with great student nights, so that is a let down. Plus the I found the libary to be small and computer rooms hot and outdated.

I found the canteen on John Princes Street to be awful, I would describe it as expensive, smelly and overcrowded. The Student Union so-called bar (and the overall campus) is much nicer on Davies Street than the run-down one on John Princes Street. But I wouldn't expect anything too 'spectacular' from either campus, but the overall enviroment was exciting.

Thank you so much for your answer InnocentFairy. I can't even put into words how excited I am to be attending school in London, let alone the London College of Fashion!

I don't really have high expectations of student life, because the student life at my current school is non existent... but anyway, thanks again! I can't wait!!!

^_^:p:D:woot::buzz:

Late application.

Ok, so heres the deal.

I'm 19 with no formal education. My GCSE's and A-levels were missed due to illness.

I'm a year into recovery and am finally finding some sort of hope towards my future and well, life in general.

My one passion that has never altered and has only grew throughout my life has been fashion.

I was browsing the net the other day when I came across a course at the LCF.

Its a HE course in fashion buisness and is available for people with no formal education and/or mature applicants.

The more I read about it the more I really REALLY want this. I feel if I don't do this now, get away from home, get some sort of well, life, I never will. Perhaps dramatic but thats how I feel.

I've spent the day completing my Supporting Statement, which I'm confident is fairly strong (though I would LOVE if someone could look over and give advice on) the problem is my late application.

Do you think they'd even LOOK at the application? The deadline is/was spring but they recommend early application.

What do you all think?

Thanks in advance,

Hannah.

Hannah, I really think you should apply anyway. Because you never know what could happen. Even if you application is late, maybe it means you'll start in Spring of 09 instead of Fall 08?

Hi Hannah,

The interview for this course was over a month ago, I know because I was invited to it (didnt go though) In the letter I recieved from LCF it said something about how they may not be able to reschedule interviews because they only do group interviews. I'm pretty sure all the interviews are now over with.

But I think you should still apply HE courses are not as oversubscribed to as foundation and BA degree courses are. So there may still be chance.

But before you send of your application, give LCF a call, ask to speak to the head of the course, and ask them if it would be worth sending an application at this time.

If your still looking for somebody to read your supporting statement i would be more then happy to.

Wow you are so lucky. I really want to get on to their fashion journalism course. What did you do for your BA. Did you do fashion journalism? How did you find it?

What did they ask you in your interview for the MA

Why what's wrong with it?

Isn't that what your are doing?

I thought you said you liked it

Thanks DiorLover, I did as you suggested and they told me although it was indeed a very late application I should still send it in. Its been sent first class as I type!

I'm trying not to get my hopes up as I know its unlikely due to timing.

Is anyone going to LCFs open day?

I've booked a place for me and a friend for 11th July. Hopefully I will have found out if I've been accepted by then, even if I haven't got in I plan on going and finding out what I should do to make sure I'm definitely accepted next year.

Well, to the guys who have been following my story at LCF. I got a FULL refund for the course!!! So I guess they too believe the course is very bad too. I am still awaiting the report from the university. I think it helped that I mentioned the drugs and the fact that lecturer didn't even have a degree, such a 'fantastic' university...not. Produces good designers, maybe, but not good courses (however, I can't speak for all).

Wow, so you got a full refund. That's pretty unusual. Sad that it didn't work out for you. My personal opinion is that anyone wanting to pursue a career in fashion journalism shouldn't feel forced having to attend a fashion focused institution. You are actually better of attending a university with high academic standard offering top class journalism degrees, while interning at a fashion publication along side your studies.

In the end you might not be working in the fashion industry your entire life and that's where a "proper" journalism degree for a reputable institution can come on hand.

So I have heard, but I have my full refund and I deserve it. Individuals who do not have a degree should not be teaching at a BA level, nevermind an MA level and they should not be telling their students where to buy cocaine! To be honest, they did not have a leg to stand on with all the problems that had occured with the course. My refund has not come as a shock, but expected. I am sure other individuals would love to know about such unprofessional teaching from a 'prestigious' institution.

i don't remember reading about that!

Congrats InnocentFairy! You should take some of that refund and treat yourself. You deserve it.

this is all kind of depressing. will I regret going there?

I didn't want to mention it in the posts because it is so off-putting, but I think future students should know the truth now. But yes, all these extra situations took place.
