So, I'm 37 minutes into the finale and I feel like I'm PMS-ing. I've felt so many different emotions in such a short period of time.

:( :( I can't believe it's over! I didn't think I would cry, but the ending really got to me. I still don't quiet understand what happened, but did anyone else watch the Jimmy Kimmel special after it? He explained his theory to Matthew Fox and Matthew agreed, so I guess that means he is right? I sort of understood his theory about the island being Jack's test and that the sideways world was his afterlife. What I didn't understand was what Jimmy said about the scene from the first episode of the season 6, where Jack is on flight 815 and there is turbulence. He said something like the moment between the turbulence hitting and Rose saying "You can let go" is when Jack's "journey/test" took place. Did anyone else see that and can explain?

Can't believe it's over, it finished like a couple of minutes ago here in UK but I don't get the ending. Did they all really die? Like I don't get it.

When Matthew Fox agreed to what Kimmel was saying, I think it was only because the ending was left to our interpretation. The scene from the season 6 premiere was shown because Kimmel thought the turbulence meant that THAT was the moment Jack died in the real timeline (lying beside Vincent on the ground with his stab wound). Matthew didn't confirm or deny but said it was very much possible. We may never know. Kimmel's like the rest of us, he has his own theories

I think most people are in agreement that the alternate universe was sort of like a non-denominational heaven.. you could even call it purgatory if you like. An afterlife sounds about right too. It was just a universe that was created to allow all the Losties to meet each other again and be at peace. It never existed in real life though. Jack and Juliet were never married, they never had a son, Sawyer was never a cop, etc.

However, everything that happened on the island DID happen. Locke is dead, Jack dies. Hurley and Ben become #1 & #2 protectors of the island. As for Kate, Claire, Sawyer and the rest of them on the plane? Well, that's open for interpretation too. They could have made it back home, or they could have crashed into the ocean 10 minutes after takeoff. (I personally like to think they made it home so that Kate could look after Ji Yeon, Claire could be reunited with Aaron and Sawyer could find his daughter). The alternate universe was timeless in that it took place after everyone has died. Could have been sooner than later, or could have been 50 years down the line. Just like Christian told Jack at the end: "it could have been before you (aka Boone, Shanon, Sayid, Sun, Jin) or long after you (possibly Desmond, Hurley, Ben, Kate, Claire, Sawyer.. who knows!)" . That's the beauty of it.

I've rambled on but I hope this helps a bit! :) It's been a few hours since watching the finale and the more I've allowed it to sink in, the more I've come to accept and be at peace with it

If anyone can please megaupload this ep everyone outside the US would be so gratefull (Damn you work for getting in the way of important tv show history).

I can't find the links to watch online anywhere and my DL will still take awhile. PLEASE PLEASE WITH SUGAR ON TOP.

Just downloading it now, although from what I've read here it sounds like you don't get proper answers and it's all open to interpretation. I want something SOLID!!!

ugh I can't find a proper download - I dl a link that said e17-18, but it's only about 1, 44 hours long, the finale was supposed to be 2,5 hours right? I mean it ends with subs and stuff so it seems complete, but is that just part one? Or was it 2,5 hours WITH commercials on television?

I don't want to start watching if it's not the complete finale lol :(

that's the double episode 1.44 hours, 2,5 was with commercials :flower:
you can watch online, but you have to be in us, i downloaded it from torrent site

^I found it on You Tube. If anyone else is interested...

5th part is missing...

Seen it, thought the ending was perfect. They definitely focused on a character driven conclusion rather than answering all the mythology based stuff, and that suited me fine.

I really liked the 'Purgatory' reveal for the alt. timeline. Seeing all the characters, new and old reforming their connections in order to be at peace and move on was well handled. The "Christian Shephard" clue was genius when we see the role he plays in shepherding them. I've heard that a lot of people thought they were 'dead all along' from the moment the plane crashed after watching the finale. I don't think that's the case, and the clue is in the dialogue between Ben and Hurley. He says "You were a great number 2" to Ben, so everything on the island that happened happened.

Overall a great series and one that concluded well ;)

Thanks for clarifying! I had the same idea about what the alternate world was and thinking about it more last night, I am under the impression that the alternate timeline doesn't begin until after Jack dies in the finale (and then also after all the living Losties die sometime in the future). As for whether the plane actually made it home, I also want to think it did but then again there was that end footage of a plane wreck...

I'm still so overwhelmed by the finale. I was scared I might not be happy with how it ends, but really, I LOVED it. I loved all the "flashbacks" to the old scene and how they all remembered. I agree that this whole flash sideways thing is their afterlife, which is timeless. Them meeting again is them finding each other in their life after death. And Jack is the only one that "can't let go", so that's why we're seeing these flash sideways, so we can see the process of him finding peace and accepting his life as what it was (not having had a family of his own and such). What I'm not satisfied with is this whole Jacob and MIB thing. Maybe I'm lacking some Bible-knowledge here or something, but they don't seem to fit in with the rest of the storyline? Anyone care to explain? To me it would have made so much more sense if Jacob and Christian Shephard had been the same "person". I loved Christian's role in the finale, because that's what I expected for him to be back in season 1 when he appeared to Jack. Anyway, I'm definitely happy abou how it ended, even though there's still a million more questions. I need to rewatch the whole series this summer, that's going to be soooo interesting, seeing if it really does fit together :woot:
So exciting and sooooo sad at the same time!!!

I loved it! So many emotional moments but the one at the end with Vincent lying next to Jack..Man I bawled my eyes out! So sad it's over :(

just watched the finale...i dont really know what to think of it. i read a comment from a member on another forum saying how 'we been on a long con' and i guess that is how i feel right now. that is my reasoning side talking. the last episode/s is good and it is emotional and touring down the memory lane, but you can work this ending on season one even. but the saying goes, it is the journey not the destination that counts.
definitely dont feel like i wasted all those hours watching lost because the ending is still bit 'what?! it's over?' i still feel like it is missing something...didnt even drop a single tear throughout the two hours because all i can think of is this cant be the end...

Just watched it, still can't put together a proper comment except for: I Can't believe it's over!!!!!

I think I cried through the entire thing and I NEVER cry over tv shows. It was a brilliant episode.
Agreed with whoever said everything on the island happened, Christian Shepherd (loved that!) told Jack that it was such a momentous experience in all their lives that they had to be find each other once their lives were over.
The thing that really got me going was Vincent lying down next to Jack when he died. Total ball of emotions!!!
PS. I haven't been a faithful watcher throughout the whole series, what was the significance of the shoe tied to the bamboo?
