Thats a pretty crazy theory! I can't quite wrap my head around it

you should rent the other seasons, it'll be worth it!This is kind of off-topic but still related to LOST. There has been a Tsunami warning in Hawaii where the show is filmed. The cast ,crew and their families have been moved higher up for their own safety.

Okay, I am updating my theory... Instead of Jacob being Jack, I can see Jack and Sawyer ending up in the Jacob/Man in black situation. The man in black keeps saying that he knows what it's like to lose someone, and now Sawyer has the fresh pain of losing Juliet (which he blames Jack for) so it's possible they could end up as the new good/evil force on the island.
Sawyer bringing up the ending of Mice and Men where the one friend says look out over the horizon and see everything we can have together - and then shoots him in the back of the head; I feel like this is of some importance. Will a similar situation happen at the end of LOST? They've said it's going to be a dark, bittersweet ending...

^I hope it doesn't end that way! I really liked how the sideways world turned out for Jack at the end of the episode. It seems atleast somewhat hopeful. I really don't know which world is real and which isn't. The whole situation is confusing me and it doesn't help that I read the 6-page in-depth analysis of each episode on Entertainment Weekly's website!

I am also curious about Hurley and his influence in the "flash sideways" it seems like he has an influence on all of the Losties on their return to LA. And the fact that in the flash sideways the island is underwater... Could this be the "future" after some kind of event manages to sink the island? Also, who has thoughts on who the young blonde boy was that appeared to MIB/Smokey/Zombie Locke when he was with Sawyer in the jungle? And do you think if you drink the water the darkness influences you?

What was Hurley's influence on Jack and Kate in the sideways world? I think maybe the fact that the island is under water in the flash sideways is due to the bomb thing working. I actually don't really understand the whole bomb thing from last season since I missed those episodes, but something related to the bomb must be the reason why the island is underwater in the other world, right? Btw, what year were they in when they tried detonating the bomb last season? Anyway if that's the case, then the sideways world, would actually be the present or technically 2004 since that was the year of the original flight.
About the boy- when I first saw him, I thought he looked alot like Jacob. I can't figure out if that makes sense or not because the dialogue between FakeLocke and the boy is kind of cryptic. The whole Jacob and Man in Black thing is possibly biblical reference from what I've read (and it sort of fits with the story), so maybe the boy represents another biblical person?
As for the water- I have no clue. I'm waiting to see more about Claire's story to understand that part.

^Yes! Sometimes I think he reads way too much into everything, but then I remember that this is Lost we're talking about! But seriously, his theories change almost every week and its very hard to keep up with.

Tonight's episode was awesome! I'm glad we got to find out about Richard's background, though I think alot of fans had pretty much figured out his connection to the Black Rock already. I like that we got to see beyond his mysteriousness from the previous episodes. I feel empathetic towards him and am kind of rooting for him now.
After seeing the episode, I'm still not quite sure who is good or evil. Jacob seems like he is good because he is supposedly protecting the world from the evilness that is the man in black. So can the Man in Black not control his Smokey side, like he can't help but kill people or something? Because I don't quite understand his reasoning for killing some people and not others (like he spared Richard). And if he can't control himself, that doesn't mean he is trying to be evil, it just is that way. But maybe I'm completely missing part of the story. Also, how can Jacob keep the Man in Black from getting off the island; does it have to do with his special powers?

The only way I could see Jacob as being evil is because he brings people to the island (the "candidates") to basically be picked off by Smokey/Man in Black/Fake Locke. I know we were supposed to get answers with this episode, but I feel like I'm still left confused!

^Interesting, but how can that be? I assumed that when they left the island a few seasons ago, they were returning to the real world. Jack was certainly alive then, right? Plus if he were dead, then I would think only Hurley could see and interact with him.

OMG! i can't believe i've only just NOW discovered this thread!!
LOST is my single favourite television show of. all. time. it is nothing but pure, INSANE joy!!
this past week's episode had me screeching with excitement, weeping at the end with Richard at the tree, etc. .. and just thrilled me to no end with all of the mythical relevance and symbolism.
