Louis Vuitton Cruise 2021 Paris

There’s a great sense of emergency and realism in this collection that I like. It’s reworked pieces from recent collections and from his repertoire but very much down to earth.

I particularly like the first 3 outfits as they works perfectly with the environment and the intention of the collection...

Then, the MAS styling takes over and the clash of influences (usually her strength) makes it hard to digest. I think sometimes, MAS needs to let a beautiful dress or jacket just be that. Pretty or beautiful are not bad words.

As catchy as they are, I don’t think putting the chunky boots elevate a rather « real » collection.

They (NG and MAS) really need to stop styling with the clownish sneakers lol. Seeing an outfit with a regular black stiletto is so refreshing.

The shirtdress in outfit #1 is pretty darn cute!

Loved the tan jacket on Mika. The first dress is cute. I don't mind the boots.

The striped leggins should have stayed in 2007. No one wants to impersonate a bee like a toddler would.

All of these resort collections right now feel kind of pointless (and a cash grab), well, at least for american countries. I'm sure there are rich people out there not staying in their homes and even with their own yatch or something, but for the rest, do they really need to wear this stuff to look pretty in the living room? Sorry for the offtopicness lol I like the sneakers

Thank god, there’s not only rich people who buys and wears designers clothes. Even more at Vuitton since Nicolas has been at the helm, the clientele is a lot less exclusive than during the Marc era.
There are women who loves his aesthetic and buys his clothes to work or something else. They sure have the means of their ambition...
And this collection will only be in stores in November/December.

I totally get your point and that's right if you have the money and want to expend it on clothes from resort collections because at the end of the day it's your money and you can do whatever. I wasn't talking about this collection in particular but more like the resort collections in general, I guess this goes more in relation to the resort clothes that are actually now in stores as opposed to the ones that are being presented this month. I've always felt that the allure of the resort collections is what you are going to wear for your dream travel location on your vacation, you know things like that, I know it sounds cheesy and predictable but again that's just me.

This is a lot to take in, but after really looking at the details I think there are a few good pieces. All of it together? A big mess.

LOL about the tights. Perfectly said YohjiAddict.

It was that in the 00’s to the early 10’s.
In the old economy of fashion, when RTW was almost a marketing tool to help sell the bags and shoes, Resort could afford to be about Resort because the RTW clientele was very particular.

In the current economy of fashion (and it started in the early 2010´s), resort is just clothes that are commercial, practical and that can have a longevity in the stores.

And that has also to do with the rise of the separates that has made fashion accessible for a lot of people.

But don’t you think that the lifestyle attached to the resort collections or the mystique around the life of rich people has been tarnished by social media?

Maybe it’s just better to present clothes (even if I hope that less brands continues with resort).

A pandemic has occurred and we still get collections like this, and from one of the (formely) most talented individuals in the fashion industry?

Nicolas lost my respect after that vile F/W show, which must have been one of the worst I've ever seen. Whilst this is not quite as bad, there are only a few excusable looks and honestly, it's boring as hell and ugly as usual. I mean couldn't NG at least have done some more stripped back (not striped!), bare looks that would look good in store windows? I guess not.

This sci-fi streetwear look has had it's moment. Unfortunately everything looks stale and old. Why is he finding it so difficult to do something luxurious and grown up?

There are some great individual pieces but the styling always gets me. Who actually dresses like this and does anyone actually find it desirable?

I must say that all the ruffled collars make them look a bit like modern sci-fi clowns.

I wished he followed the direction of his SS2020 collection. I think it was a little more sophisticated. I really loved that collection!

The Spring 2017 collection was one of my favorites. It perfectly merged futurism and sophistication. It was his most Balenciaga-esque collection since starting at LV. He hasn’t really hit that mark since. The 18th Century coats in 2018 were good, but that’s all I remember from that collection. Maybe I should just stop having any expectations?

I think that you should, indeed, stop having expectations.
I love Nicolas, I love his clothes, I love wearing his clothes but at the same time, I totally got, from the moment he came to Vuitton, that he wouldn’t do a Balenciaga bis. And I’m fine with it!

He gave himself totally to Balenciaga. I see Vuitton as an « exercise de style ». I don’t expect from him the same work as it’s not the same house/capacities or possibilities. Yes, Vuitton is a lot of money but they don’t have the heritage of a Couture house. In the long run, people will remember that he did the Twist and La Petite Malle!
Despite all the wonderful clothes Marc has done, the public remembers Stephen Sprouse, Murakami or the spectacles that was the shows.

Tbh, I really enjoy Nicolas’s tenure at Vuitton. I’m already happy to see them produce clothes at this capacity (MJ’s stuff was beyond limited).

I also loved SS17. I loved his first 2 years, hated Rio, hated FW17, liked the rest, loved FW19 (Pompidou) and totally adored SS2020. FW19+SS20 were really the first time I was frustrated to only be able to buy few pieces.
