Alicia really does not make sense as a Ghesquiere girl. She's pretty but in a very sweet way, nothing particularly edgy or modern about her.

That's not how I see her at all. Have you seen her in the film "Ex Machina"? It's probably her most successful film thus far, and her role/performance is edgy and not at all sweet. Even in interviews and such, she doesn't really seem sweet or old-fashioned at all. Less so than Michelle Williams, certainly. She's successful, stylish, she's a European actress making it big in Hollywood, she's dating Michael Fassbender (that gives her edge, right? lol), she seems like the perfect girl for this kind of campaign.
