i just watched "die buechse der pandora/pandora's box" (while sipping my breakfast coffee, haha, i was too tired to watch it yesterday evening, and the video store wants it back until noon.) and i loved it.
i didn't know that pandora's box was an adaption of wedekind's "lulu" until now. how embarassing. louise brooks was so adorable, and she played the lulu very well. childlike and seductive at the same time. the other actors were great, too. i was really surprised how 'modern' the film appears to be. (compared to other german films from the twenties.)
I did find something good, though. On www.threadless.com , one of their new t-shirts is called "LuLu". I really want to get it!! I'm attaching a close-up of the print, and one that shows the placement (lower left corner). Oh, and the grey is a guy-cut shirt ($15) and the pink is a girl-cut shirt ($17) (if that makes any sense).
thank you, dosviolines. i really have to try to get an own copy of that film.
it's a pity that there are not more pictures of alice roberts online. (the woman louise brooks is dancing with in the last pic) she didn't look that fierce all the time. her role in pandora's box is by the way said to be the first lesbian in film history. i don't know if that's true.
another actress from the film i couldn't find good pictures of is daisy d'ora (her birth name was daisy baroness von freyberg)
I just saw Diary of a Lost girl. It was sooo good. I was shocked that they explored topics that would be controversial, I thought, back then. Louise Brooks looked gorgeous of course, and I loved her facial expressions.
Now, I'm about to read her biography. Have any of you read it?
