Lucky Magazine

i dont understand how & why lucky is still being printed.
like, for real.... why?

^ Perhaps you don't understand because you're a guy. I consider it a practical fashion magazine. I like it because I can find out about things I'd never see on my own even if I spent all my time shopping ... some merchandise is available only on the coasts, and I can see some of those things in Lucky. It's also very readable ... contrast with Elle which is the worst out there

I totally agree with all points. Lucky is very "user friendly" and not cluttered with articles on relationships, sex, etc. It's one of my favorite magazines and has been for awhile.

Lucky Magazine July 2010 - Milla Jovovich

I just have to laugh at Lucky now. This magazine is hanging on by a thread yet they do nothing different. Same cover models, same useless articles with overpriced badly matched outfits. By contrast People Stylewatch has a similar format and has become immensely popular just by being fresh, current and showcasing more affordable items.

Bigger pic of Milla and w/o some of the text

Are they hanging on by a thread? Just wondering what you're basing that on ...

I'm not familiar with People Stylewatch, but is it more celebrity driven?

OMG! Lucky July 2010 has got to be my favorite Lucky cover for 2010. I love it, she looks so gorgeous. The colors work. The text, even though is a LOT, works. I will so buy this!

People StyleWatch is more celebrity driven. I like Lucky magazine but I am sick of the same people on the cover all the time. Also I like that Lucky is more personal style driven.

Actually I may be wrong about Lucky hanging by a thread. Last year Luckywas one of the titles that took the biggest hits to its ad page but this year they have regained some ad pages apparently. The problem is Lucky doeesn't seem to be growing its readership at all. People Stylewatch has been out less than 3 years and is nearing the same circulation as Lucky and keeps growing at double-digit rates.

Whatever it is I find myself looking at each Stylewatch many times over while I would go through Lucky once and be done. I didn't renew my subscription after one year because the magazine just wasn't worth it. Whoever does the styling is terrible. A lot of the outfits they put together are unflattering and unattractive.

The cover looks like a page out of Milla Jovovich's Ann Taylor ad. Very surprised that a full-body shot is chosen for the cover.

As entertained as I often am by People's StyleWatch, Lucky is far more readable and thoughtful, though admittedly the quality of its pictorials wasn't on par with what it was before the recession. But I have to give Lucky credit for coming up with meaningful texts for its beauty pages. The beauty section in People's StyleWatch is but an expansive catalogue. I think People's StyleWatch is more similar to InStyle anyways (they are from the same publisher afterall).

Of the magazines I subscribe to, Bazaar (sadly) is the one that seems to be hanging by a thread. They combined June/July ... it's really too bad, because I think their content is good (though Karl Lagerfeld is no hotshot photographer--would love to know how Anna pissed him off). Especially their coverage of new fashion seasons, trends, how to wear it, etc. I like practical + fashion, and they do it very well.

Unfortunately there seems to be a much bigger audience for celebrities than for personal style. I used to read InStyle & it has its good aspects, but at the end of the day, I really don't give a damn what necklace Jennifer Aniston is wearing. I guess a lot of people who are into individuality aren't into fashion ... not sure whether that's a good or a bad thing.

I don't mind that I can move thru Lucky quickly ... in my world, a readable magazine is a plus.
