Luisa via roma

Just got off the phone with FedEx, the guy told me that the VAT applies whether your purchase is personal use or not, he basically told me theres no way to get around it. To add insult to injury, Eluxury just added DH ready to wear and they have the exact same jeans I bought from LVR, and free shipping too! grrrr

danimal, it's not the VAT that they charge you for... they charge you for importation duties usually at 10%... it was 9% for my chloe bags from london. i disputed it cuz the lady seemed to be saying that i could have gotten my bags quicker if i declared it as non personal use and then redeclared them as personal use...she also toldme there shouldn't be any import charges if it was personal use so i was misinformed by her
gah this is horrible! stupid fedex... i'm so sorry edk... i had to go through the same exact thing.

Well, they say they're trying to fix this entire situation so no one has to go through it. The owner seems very nice and trustworthy, and she is fully aware of how much it sucks for people to have to pay extra. I have faith in her that things will be improved. And for anyone interested, she sent me an email today saying she'll be getting in two styles of Ann Demeulemeester shoes this season.

you know what i just realized...i bought 900 dollars worth of stuff from denmark a few weeks ago, god i hope this doesnt get to me as well. but this was with USPS so i dunno how that goes.

danimal you said you paid 400 for those eluxury has them for 465, is eluxury high mark up?

usually things from abroad have a markup... it seems they factor shipping and importation costs into the price. like the chloe paddington... lets say you went to paris and bought it there and got your vat return at the airport, it would cost quite a bit less than it would for you to buy it in the united states at $1380 as the bag only costs about $1100 in europe after the vat return.

does anything happen besides them not delivering to your house if you dont pay? do you get in trouble with a collection agency or the law or do they charge interest to the fee.

yes..an unpaid fedex bill will go to a collection agency and will go on your credit report...

Looking back at my bank statement I paid about 398 for the jeans, then 50 euro for shipping, and now 100 for duties, so about 575 altogether. Eluxury would definately been a better choice if I had the option, but of course I wasn't expecting to have to pay FedEx. $465 seems right for those, Barneys here in chicago has the same jeans and i think theyre charging 465 as well, but they only have bigger sizes like 32 and up. Sooooo hard to find 28s here.

i went to barneys last saturday the ones they have are different. they only had 2 kinds of jeans, the white ones and denim blue ones which were 385. but yea they had no small sizes only like 34 and up. one of the workers named jeffrey said his dior stuff got wiped out due to phone orders.

danimal ive been meaning to ask, where about do you live in chicago?

Are there any other places to buy Dior Homme in Chicago besides Barneys? If so what are their mark ups like? I'm thinkin of takin a road trip down there one of these weekends...

besides Barneys there is only george greene they both carry extremely little, but george greene they mark up like crazy. the canvas jeans for example are 310 everywhere(DH store, barneys, saks etc..) but george greene charges 350.

edit: i add that george greene also carries yohji, i know you like him so there you go. but same applies to yohji, they are marked up and carry very little.

EdK, I live in River Plaza, its right next to where the new Trump building is going, in between Nordstrom and the Chicago River. Its a convenient location for shopping and anything else really but parking is so expensive I just sold my car and take cabs or walk everywhere. Where do you live?

hoffman estates/schaumburg right by woodfield mall.

I don't know how it works in the US, but here customs charge about 20% of the declared value, unless it's marked as a gift. You can't receive your item until you've paid, so if the delivery company doesn't have a phone number for you they can turn up on the doorstep demanding money.

ouch! ...for those of you who are ordering or have ordered from luisa... you can estimate your landed cost at fedex.com. you have to sign up but you can see how much they will probably charge you. for leather handbags (obviously) over $20, it's 9%

"nowhere" seems like a very good description of Michigan. Not just literally, but also in a symbolic sense...being here, I get the impression that NOWHERE is exactly where I'm headed.

somebody get me the hell outta here.

sorry for that off topic rant.
