Mad Men

Last episode was WOW!

So many things happening! The Joanie/Peggy thing just was sooooo good!

Last episode was great, think my fav of the season so far, JOAN JOAN JOAN

Joanie was presented with a strange dilemma. And she did the best of it. Clap clap clap

Christina Hendricks was amazing in this episode! I'm so happy to see them giving her more screen time. She definitely deserves it.

And I would have to say this is my second favourite episode of the season. Cannot believe Peggy finally did it. I loved Don's reaction. It was perfect. I can't wait to see how this season ends even though I really don't want it to.

Last episode could´ve easily been a season finale, it was that good.
I loved the flashback scene with Don and Joan, I feel like she wouldn´t have done if she knew he was against it...
I´m both happy and sad that Peggy left :) :(

I can't believe I thought this show was over the hill. The last few episodes have been amazing....goosebumps at the end of each episode. This is some of the best work I have seen on television.

How have they managed to create these characters? It's a genius show. I still hold Vincent Kartheiser (Pete) highest of all. He has such an unsympathetic character and yet, he makes Pete strangely lovable. His movements, the way he talks, holds his head.....It's just one of the best performances I've ever seen.

Jon Hamm (Don) can - really - sell anything. He's dull as a log and then he just turns it on and it's just surreal.

Elisabeth Moss (Peggy) is of course the natural favourite. She's not pretty pretty, but she is so hard working, lovely and sincere.

Jarnuary Jones (Betty) is much like Pete in the sense that she is just a rather terrible person, though much more under the surface. I wont forget the way she treated that little boy who had a crush on her...at first I wondered why the boy's mom was so mad at Betty....but then Betty showed how immature and weird she was by confessing her sadness to this little boy, and, further, rejected him in a cold way, as if she was a little girl herself. Both Betty and Pete are immensely immature. JJ gets a lot of flack, but I think it's unfair. She fits the role perfectly and she is a good actress.

John Slattery (Roger) is also a complete charmer. Perhaps the most likable character after Peggy. Which is a bit ironic because the way he has behaved has been terrible. He cheats on his loving wife over and over, then trades in for a new model, cheats on her, ditches her like a used dish cloth, uses and impregnates Joan, takes no responsibility, puts up with Joan doing what she did....even encourages it. He is a lovable rougue, but if anyone should get flack for their character, he is probably the one.

Lane Pryce (Jared Harris) is, for me, the least remarkable of the main cast. He's pitiful and I wouldn't mind to see him go.

Joan Harris (Christina Hendricks) is obviously a given favourite, if nothing else so for her figure. It's rather marvellous to see someone with the Jayne Mansfield build be treated as the most beautiful of all. Refreshing, really. Her character is interesting - she is strong and proud, which makes the last episode so much more enigmatic. She truly deserves her position, but it will be weird to see how she handles this....there are so many obvious ways it could go wrong.

^^^agree!
But also I think what she did was (in a way) a solution of sorts for her and her situation after the breakup with her d***ish husband.
I mean Don and Sterling acted disgusted with the proposal, but if she "kept" her moral standarts and refused she would have stayed "clean" to Don and Rogers eyes, but she would stay always an employee.
In a way Lane Pryce´s advice was a tad machiavellian, but also very realistic for her in the long run.
It was a brave act for her, she had to take care of herself and her baby, in a world where nobody else would.
In a way, I think she felt her marriage had been in many ways much more degrading and dirty than this evening with this guy.
Peggy storyline and the final dialogue with Don was priceless too.

It could have been a perfect finale, I agree.

Tremendous episode, what a season this has been, wow!

It happens seldom that i talk to my television, or more like scream at it, but this is how fantastic the show is.

For me the most unbelievable aspect of watching this show is how much of the behavior i still recognize in our modern world. Some aspects of our lives have not changed at all, they are just better masked.

For instance at my workplace just recently what everyone has been talking about, been about this beautiful girl that joined our office 3 months ago, and was suddenly promoted to higher ranking over any of us 10 girls who have been here for over 3 years. The reason? None was given, except that she has "shown prospect" , when in fact she has been having an affair with the boss. We remain living in a world - albeit, work in a business world - where a woman's sexuality still sells. Still used as leverage!

I guess that is why the whole Joan storyline made me so upset, i wish she didn't have to do that, but i understand the gain of securing hers & kids future felt worth going through. It opens so many arguments, but in the end its every woman's personal choice. She was not forced, perhaps manipulated in that direction, but it felt like she had the final say, which i thought came across well. Pete makes me sick, such a disgusting character, cant stand him!

Hendricks was superb in this episode, the face was soo amazing, no words necessary!

The single thing that made me most upset, even over Joan's decision, was when Don threw money in Peggy's face, wow, huh?! That just made my blood boil, and i cheered for her realizing her time is to move on to another company. So amazingly happy at her smiling in the end. Although i was touched when Don kissed her and, and didn't want to let go, sigh, love this show!

I am not sure how Joan will do as the partner, i cant see it being to promising, the look she and Don exchanged in the room was so magnetic, and sad. But the line that perfectly described how they all see Joan was when Petet asked: " Would you like to address the men?"
"........

Only 2 more episodes will miss it so much!

^Yeah, that scene in Roger's office, was just -_- I can't see how this is going to work out for Joan. Girl has some attitude but nor the company or the period are ready to have a woman calling the shots.

I feel like this and Game of Thrones have flown by season.

And I had this bittersweet feeling when Peggy finally made the big decision. She had expressed interest about leaving for quite a while, it's something I never thought she'd actually do. I can't wait to see how they'll handle that.

Surely this has to be the year at least one of the cast members wins an Emmy?

^ Indeed.

Quite shocking really.

But again one of the best of the season imo.

I'm still waiting to see if anything happens with the elevator...

Everything was quite mad and maddening. Sally, Lane´s wife, the super awkward interview with the Dow guys....it was like watching a ticking bomb always on the brink of the big KABOOOOOOOOM.
Great episode, but I cannot stand this kind of tension too often. Lane´s scene with Don broke my heart.

Seriously, this is the only series that gets better with every episode. So sad that the last ep is already coming! I was soooo blown away with ep 11 and 12. So much interesting going on... They could easily make 4 more seasons... (Lets hope they do :)

Will Season 6 premiere this fall? I hope the delay of 5 hasn't then further delayed Season 6!

^ Oh that would be a treat considering what went on this season!

And what did everyone think of the season finale?

It wasn't my favourite episode. I don't like when shows make the second to last episode the big bang and then let the finale fall flat.

I feel the same. The finale was a bit lackluster. I was happy, however, that Peggy made an appearance... but that's about it. Still very excited for the next season, though. :) Of course!
