There was a JOY, HUMOR, and ORIGINALITY in it as always which fashion history will no doubt judge kindly.

Originality? But it was totally derivative.

Not that that's, necessarily, a bad thing.

i know that one of marc's main goals is to keep us guessing and maintaining a sense of unpredictability, but how far will he go to achieve that? i think that goal is going to eventually get in the way of his designing...if that makes any sense. i was mesmerized by his last f/w collection, so to see this sort of deviation is a bit disappointing -- but it wouldn't be marc jacobs if we didn't have a 15 page thread already trying to pin down his intentions. he keeps us talking.

what is derivative? the entire human history is derivative. when something is said to be derivative of 50 things and no one can still quite still pin it down, i don't consider that derivative.

by the way i would like to have someone's reaction who went to the show about the 2hrs late....
last time it was 1hrs late or more (Uma even left...) one of my "friend" who went overthere told me "it was 1hr late f*** him! it was all black! it was s***!"

Who in NYC is NOT derivative? That's how 7th Avenue was created in the first place. Besides, anyone working in fashion understands certain things are always in the air. You can only re-invent sliced bread so many times. At the end of the day, it's still sliced bread. Or in this case, a dress.
In any case, I found it to be ludique and creative. At least it approaches fashion as opposed to the dreary merch elsewhere.

I think I'm tired of getting excited (if that's possible?!) just for the sake of it.

When the clothes are great, it's fantastic to see something new, of course; but when the clothes are poor, it's a big let down.

In fact, I'm tired of shallow, meaningless, fast fashion, in general.

I now want to see a considered body of work, thoughtfully evolved over several seasons, that really showcases the talent of the designer.

Oh, I know, nothing is truly original; especially in fashion.

But to describe a collection, with so many elements that are very similar to those that have been recently rehashed by other designers, original, seems more than a little inaccurate, to me.

and maybe the whole thing is just a humorous way at looking at fashion and how obsessed we all are these days about it...we're all trying to find a philosophical meaning behind the collection, while my guess he is probably having a laugh while we're "searching for meaning"

hm...and the fact that its sooooo unwearable could be a comment on consumerism?!?! everyone is out to make a buck out of "commercial, good selling clothes", he's rebelling??

That's very true, but as I am a fan of Marc, I am not judging his collection in comparison with what all the other, more pedestrian, NY designers have produced; I am judging it in comparison to his previous collections.

I know he is capable of more. If I was a teacher, I would be marking his work with 'Could try harder.'!

Obviously, being inspired by themes that have been done before (and before and before...) is fine and is totally to be expected, as fashion is cyclical. But as I say, if one is going to be inspired by elements that have recently been 'recycled' by others, one should, in my humble opinion, at least attempt to equal, or better, one's inspirations and certainly the other 'recyclers'.

Otherwise, what is the point?

To those trying to pinpoint the shoe reference, I remember Fendi doing a heel-less shoe back in the late 90's, although I'm not sure if that's where it started. And the wasted, mis-matched secretary recalls Galliano for Dior HC sometime in the early 2000's.

I have a hard time drawing a distinction between Marc Jacobs the designer and Marc Jacobs the boyfriend of Jason Preston. Part of me really considers whether Marc is just a great showman and stylist (a faker), lacking any of the makings of a true artist... a Tom Ford, albeit for a different crowd.

What a hideous collection. Granted, there are a few accessories that are nice and perhaps a dress or two but otherwise it's just a mishmash of cliche references and poorly styled outfits. I thought maybe the shoes saved it, until I noticed the "too small heel" thing was on purpose. Are they actualyl going to be sold that way?...there appears to be some sort of platform beneath the heal of the foot so that it seems to be popping out of the shoe is if it didn't fit. Why!?eughhh I was hoping Marc would help save NY fashion week ( alongside De La Renta ) but he just made it worse. I guess it's nice that it wasn't as bland as the other collections, but there's a fine line between a collection that's whimsical and a collection that's a total joke. He looks DAMN good though

the clothes are terrible... this vintage reconstruction of layers and leyers of different stuff remind me of the bag he created for LV last summer (the one that had MANY MANY bags patchworked in one huge and fugly creation)

about the shoes... i couldnt help laughing... before the similar ones were shown everyone was like: wow! so new, so cool... oh la la!

First of all, I cant believe some ppl waited 2 hours, I mean come on! can't Marc finished the dresses earlier? it is so disrespectful!

Some of the bags are ok, but i didn't get those who are hanging from outside the bag, it might be easier for thiefs to stole it right?

the shoes are awfull, I wouldn't wear something so unflattering for my feet, and they are not sexy at all

I didn't like it at all, I don't care if it's marc or not, this is not a show I would take as a reference for my s/s 2008 personal styling, I dont wanna look that bad...hopefully we have milan and paris, for beautiful and nice outfits
