Marc Jacobs F/W 08.09 NYC

What annoy me the most about Marc that he try too hard to be a 'peotic & romantic' designer like Theykensen or Elbaz. Having said that, I quite like this collection. Not so sure about the styling!!

Hum ... when I see the Marc Jacobc collections and his schizo-chic ideal sometimes I think he gets a loyal fanbase cuz hes building THEIR wardrobes with only one label -his- but many styles ... so I think this just confirm it ...

About the collection, I love how smart is for him to present pieces no other NY designer has shown ... itll immediately pop on the rack, store and street .. you wear this and people WILL know its Marcs stuff you are strutting ... the playfulness of volumes I love, as well as the Botticelli-inspired colour palette ... Im undecided on the jewelry, and the shoes are no-no, the bags are typical him ... the greatest praise from my behalf is him proving to show something different and accomplished ... any designer who does bias-cut has my heart -and wallet-

i think there are some interesting concepts in here. I think like miuccia, marc abandoned the idea of makingwearable clothing, opting instead for strong conceptual pieces.
he is selling art. I think the actual wearable goods are the bags, and the marc by marc line. the fashion show is just a way for him to get his idea out there--- like a music video does for a singer. its not how he gets paid.

so far, really interesting concept.

I would agree with you had I noticed any "art" on that runway. I would modify your statement to "he is TRYING to sell art". I'm sorry Mark, but you have to do some work in order to pull a McQueen/Galliano/Chalayan/Balenciaga...

Well, it's starting to grow on me now, as much as I hated it when I first saw it :judge:

I think I finally get it now, and either I'm seeing too much into this, or Marc is a genius, but to me it represents where America seems to be headed... economic depression, austerity, etc. That's the mood I'm feeling from looking at some pieces in the collection... that everything is mostly "necessity", the colours aren't explosive, it's all very tern..

Although I'm probably reading too much into it  I'm really starting to like the colours, and some of the coats.

Hey, at least this was not as weird as last season. Not the best ever but it's ok

All of the super washed out pastels...they're all very Birth of Venus/La Primavera looking.

Sorry, don't see it. Half of the Renaissance used washed-out pastel palette. Anyway, sorry for this tangent, I just think that people will do anything to infuse some credibility into their posts.

^^ WOW good for him!!! And deserved. And she's not the biggest MJ-fan in the world.
As I said Earlier: New York should be very happy...

So many great reviews I don't know if he cares about it, but I'm happy for him and yes, it's well deserved.^_^

^^ Soon this collection might be further compared to the masterpieces of ALL ages, even though it's like 100% 1980s.

Well, I think you're just seeing inspiration where there is none; he said himself that he wasn't "inspired".

^ That doesn't necessarily mean what it's stating. There is the subconscious mind and all. So while consciously he had no concise inspiration or idea behind the collection, his subconscious feelings could very well have driven the collection. Inspiration and mood are two very different things in terms of fashion.

It happens all the time with creative ventures.

I still don't like the collection, but that statement he made can't necessarily be taken at face value.

Botticelli-inspired color palette? Now where did you see THAT?

Ok ... I guess HERE

^^ Yeah that's exactly what I thought of when I read your comment. The birth of Venus, what a masterpiece

Spike, I definitely agree with you. :flower: It's impossible to build a collection without inspiration stemming from SOMEWHERE, even if you're uninspired, because otherwise, there just WOULDN'T BE a collection at all :P

At least I appreciate how Marc is very consistent in all his collections...it always reaches the same level of uninspired mediocrity...he admitted he wasn't feeling inspired by anything cause I don't think anybody would buy such a lie again.

not me at least

I don't know if this is still the case, but I remember reading a few seasons back that he & Robert were very proud of how their clothing business is as strong or stronger than their accessories business--not the usual case. Would be quite interesting to know if that's still true ... but what you have to remember is that what you see on the runway is not what you see in the store (for the most part). I have a jacket that was a runway piece, and they literally had to explain to me where it was in the show :innocent: It was styled so differently than how I wear it, and I had a different colorway--I never would have known if they hadn't told me.

I don't know that I've ever felt so indifferent about a Marc Jacobs collection ...

I like the ice cream colors, and I like the jewelry, though I wouldn't wear it. As always, it's hard to see what's really going on with the clothes, but the pieces I wouldn't mind having seem (from what I can see) awfully plain for their price point ...

I definitely see quite a bit of 1920s ... have you looked at the detail shots?

I personally think that the long pale dress on Vlada with the weird neck was astonishingly beautiful.
