Marc Jacobs S/S 2009 New York

I dont see why everyone is gushing over this stuff, its alright. Its nice looking but nothing ground breaking. Its all been done before. The pink dress on Vlada is probably the only thing I like out of the whole collection.
The main problem with it is that theres too much stuff going on. Whats with all the fabrics and the colours and the belts? Too many things. Marc Jacobs needs to leave fashion.

FINALLY A SHOW WORTHY OF VIEWING WHAT A COLLECTION!!!
Ugh thank god marc is back!

I don't know how to feel about this. Collectively I rather hate it but there are a few looks that, if toned down, could look pretty nice

The thing with an MJ collection is that it looks infinitely more wearable when you see it on the racks. For the most part these are wearable pieces combined in an extremely stylized way, which is usually how Marc works. It's not like Prada where the pieces are truly challenging, cause his stuff is believable for the real world.

I remember his F/w 06 and S/S 07 collections in particular, the looks on the runway were a lot to take in, very voluminous, very layered and very heavily styled. But the clothes in the store were much more understandable.

After looking through this on style.com and fashionista,I really do like how this turned out.

Plus the model casting was good, established girls(Freja, Marina, Natasha, Christina) with ones I've never heard of.

Seems most ppl are thumbs up for the show, and I'm so doubt with my aesthetics, this whole collection disturbs me a lot, too many colors too many details....

it reminded me of YSL during the early to mid 70s , same energy , similar references but marc came up with something relevant for todays times like YSL did in the 70s. It will be interesting to see how Pilati interprets YSL's energy because IMO , Marc does a much better job than Pilati of capturing that same buzz 70s YSL had .

Pilati said Marc is not TALENTED,what a joke.:innocent::innocent:

this is mary popin trying to be scarlett o'hara on vacation but bound by 40s ration.
i think marc summed up the current situation quite well, and with humor. economic rationing, using whatever we got in our house to look fabulous. using excessive home decor from that extra house we brought during the real estate frantic to save money. even taking out that super crushed boater hat that was stored in this hundred year old trunk from your great grandmother's time.

the collection is fasinating at first sight but too OTT for my taste. i adore the hats.
is marc trying to make poor the new rich?

^ He always does that, ever since his grunge collection in the 90's.

I absolutely love this!

And...."Rhapsody in Blue" as the soundtrack? Could anything be more fantastic?!?! Marc has the best music for his shows. First Glass's "Heroes" Symphony for FW 06, then Pachabel's "Canon" for SS 07, than whatever that beautiful song was for FW 07, then Ravel's "Bolero" for SS 08 and now Gershwin! The classical pieces really create a much stronger mood than any house beat ever could!

my jaw slowly dropped as i looked at this collection because it is SO not what i expected. i'm not the biggest marc jacobs fan, i generally like some things he does but i don't remember liking a whole colletion, so i'm pleasantly surprised. the pieces are really nice but more than that, the styling is genius. from the everything-going-on looks to the final (gorgeous) dresses, i love it!

Mind Blowing...
This is his best collection in years...

muxu-i am SO impressed with your observations..

i have to say that i think that marc has just taken a giant step...
it's as if he suddenly grew up and all those years of wishy washy tripe have crystallised into this one very cohesive and visionary collection...

from a purely creative ( and not practical) point of view...
this is by far the most mature collection of his long and chequered career..

i applaud him and hope he continues in this vein..
for if he does...he will surely earn a place in history alongside his heroes...
rather than a place at their feet...

go marc....just....go....!...
you're on the right path now...
just stay there...and stay focused...
this is the beginning of something truly extraordinary
if you can only keep it up...

Though a little over-accessorized I thought this collection was great especially compared with Marc's previous collections.

I'm not a fan of the rampant idolization of Marc Jacobs but this man has such imagination!! Even the elements of his collections I find 'ugly' still have me wondering in my mind what kind of woman would wear it? Who is she? Where does she live? What does she do? What books does she read? What does her voice sound like? I mean, he just creates these different worlds...oh god I sound like a stoner

Who styled this?

Maybe I just don't get it. Or perhaps it will grow on me. But I don't like it. It seems so stuffy and just everything thrown in together.

Gius, DVN is exactly what came to mind...
DVN goes New York + Art Deco...
The mixture of diff prints/textures & the esoteric styling
are esp. reminiscent of DVN's work...

I really like what Marc has done here...
He is always feeding off another's vision,
but here he's managed to make it his own...
You can clearly see DVN's influence, but it is still
very Marc... the hints of nostalgia, the colors, etc...
Looks like Marc is going to have a great season...

this is a big improvement from the cheesy retro crap he's been churning out. some really gorgeous pieces that remind me of why i used to love him. :bunny:

There are alot of gorgeus pieces and i like the mix of completely different styles (japanese, grunge, glam rock etc). Im usually not a fan of busy/eccentric styling like this but there's something that pulls these looks together. So much better than his previous collection. I like it!
