I agree as well. I don't really think you can compare the two, except that ANS clearly wanted to be like MM. But I mean, MM was definatley not nearly as (and sorry to offend any Anna Nicole Smith fans here, but remember, she DID marry some old man for his money!) sleezy as ANS was.
Marilyn definatly had more class.
... ALL in MY OPINION!
(I don't want to offend anyone!)

Lately I've been really obsessing about Marilyn :) She was just so beautiful... I collect her pictures and frame the best and the put them on my wall. She's just such a classic beauty, and theres so much mystery around her, it just fascinates me.

I can understand why people would compare them. Plus ANS copied Marilyn Monroe so... But really Marilyn is arguably the biggest comtemporary myth. There's very little chance that that could be said in the future about ANS. Even in her lifetime she was a D lister. She'll be remember as that infamous playmate who married a millionaire and all her scandals. Marilyn was a real star and though her tragic death has played a part in her 'mythication' (is that a word ? sorry I'm french) she left a big legacy behind her. Lots of people , me included, still enjoy her films, songs and pictures.Unlike ANS, her talent stands alone IMO.

I agree. I do think even Marilyn Monroe did earn a lot by "dying the right time", as I don't think she'd become such an icon or "a saint" without that. However, she was famous and definetily an icon even before she died. I don't think ANS had anything like that... to be honest I don't even know anything about her. She might've had d-list famousness in the USA, but over here she's not popular nor an icon. I think I heard about her the first time when she had that reality tv-show... and that's about it. The comparisons between her and Monroe have no foundation, it's just something created by gossip magazines to sell papers. I don't think Anna Nicole Smith will be remembered. What these two had in common:

platinum blonde hair
playboy playmate status
problems in private life
the age they died (around the same, ANS was 39 right? Monroe was 36.)
poor beginnings

I think quite many people can find the same things in common with Monroe. What my point is that ANS had no reputation nor icon status. She never really did anything notable.

Actually, there are three big differences between them, but IMO they also have some similarities. The differences basically are that Marilyn was one of the greatest actresses of all time and has the prestige that comes with it, and Anna Nicole wasn't very good at all. Another thing is that Marilyn partially worked with her mind - both with her acting but also in private - she married one of the greatest American writers, she enjoyed intellectual conversations. And last - they were both fantastic models (and I'm defining a model as a still actress, IMO there is skill/talent involved) but of such different qualities. Marilyn was soft, charming (in the extreme) and gentle, while ANS had that alligator grin and a brazen demeanor.

Similarities - again they were great models - stunning and captivating - presence. They also married older men. Ok, so ANS took this to the extreme, but then again what MM did early in her carreer was probably not very sanitary either.

Did I write something wrong (sorry, my English has been bad during the last days)? I agree that ANS has nothing on MM and that there are moe differences than similarities. The list I made was of all the similarities these two shared, and I think quite many people can find those same things in common, therefore those are not big similarities.

I think comparing a d-lister to an icon is rather ... well, it's not right. MM is known everywhere, I don't think most people have even heard of ANS. I think saying Marilyn was one of the greatest actresses is a personal opinion. True, she is one of the most popular, if not the most popular, actress, but whether she was good or not is a personal opinion.

I think Iluvjeisa was agreeing with you.

Well of course it's a personal opinion. A jugement on an actress talent can only be subjective. What do you mean ?

I also think Marilyn was a great actress, very underated, though not the greatest. She had glorious moments but her acting seemed uneven to me at times.I don't think she was the greatest actress of her time but maybe the one the camera loved the most. I've read some describing her as a source of light and that stuck in my head.
I think she was an amazing singer , I just adore her voice, and a great entertainer as well, of Charlie Chaplin caliber almost. I agree with
Iluvjeisa about her modeling skills too. The girl had brains and knew exactly what she was doing with her image. Seing the pictures of her she wanted destroyed is fascinating.

I think it's not enough to base why ANS has nothing on MM, that's what I meant.

I do agree with that she was an amazing performer and model. She really could "make love to the camera".

Anna Nicole Smith has always reminded me so much more of Jayne Mansfield and Mamie Van Doren than Marilyn Monroe. I think Marilyn Monroe had a childlike innocence that I don't think Anna Nicole really had imo.

It's not so much about agreeing or disagreeing with anyone, it's more about the thoughts themselves. I replied to your post because your post was the one that sparked a thought process in me at that moment ;) I'm torn about their similarities and dissimilarities. But overall, ANS is probably more similar to Jayne Mansfield than to MM, really.

Platinum: Didn't see your post - excellent points - and we can add Anita Ekberg to the list of excentric bombshells.

Not to speak ill from the dead but if Anna Nicole had anything childlike, it was her intelligence. :innocent:

^^ haha

Well I'm glad to hear what everyone thinks! I wasn't sure if me thinking the comparison wasn't totally on was just my opinion or if others thought that way too.
