Martin Margiela - Designer

That doll is genious:heart:...

I am obsessed with this cob-web tunic dress from the new SS line

why-lip

Went to the store today in Bruton Place and it doesn't look open to me. The inside just look like a recent vacated store to me! This being MMM, I assumed it might be part of the deco!

that's extraordinary,kiddo...j'adore!

i wonder how much his is compared with the web knits rodarte does?

I had to do a 6 page designer report and I chose Margiela (we had to pick out of a hat but I cheated because I could read his name through the back of the slip) It was really fun to find out a lot of little facts about the clothes which there are many of. And my school has a really large designer collection including 10-20 Margiela pieces and the best part is you can hold them up and put them on dress forms.

I have no idea but you know what - I'm willing to bet it's cheaper than $3k like theirs are :lol:

^that's why i had to ask  such shame if his were cheaper considering he puts as much craft-if not more-into his work as they do. sentiments about that are exactly what i said of them in the rodarte thread in the shopping forum.

but anyway,this margiela....

hmm. i wonder if maybe he has certain connections to manufacturers to make it cheaper? not sure how Rodarte works, they still give me an impression they have their own atelier and they make it themselves.. hence the price

i like MMM's sort of waxed-linen look in the mesh though
and looks quite strong

surely not? i was there last weekend and it didn't look like it was potentially going anywhere. that said things disappear in days.

Q1. When you started Maison Martin Margiela, how many people did you have on staff apart from yourself (Martin Margiela) and Jenny Meirens? What were their specialties (work content)? And at the start, what was the philosophy that you thought to put in the axis?

A1. This one is going to be easy: only two, Jenny and Martin. 20 years later, we are 76 from 16 nationalities and all ages. The philosophy is still the same today: the team work, the clothes speak for us, never take anything for granted, question all that seems established.

Q7. Looking back at your creations over 20 years, what is the thing that changed most?

A7. The fashion industry hasn't changed, it's just evolved. It seemed like so hard at our times, especially compared to the 70s where everyone was so enthusiastic and ready for changes. But it's even harder today and it will perhaps be even more so tomorrow. In the late 80s, it was more naive, the stakes were present but we still believed. Today, to believe isn't sufficient anymore. You have to combine all the parameters, the quality, delivery schedules, the press...However, it's very promising and inspiring in a way, that regardless of these difficulties, new talents and innovative ideas still appear. Also, Internet has changed everything. Globalisation didn't exist.

Q8. What does it mean to you to be "creative" ? Please give a specific definition.

A8. Open a new track, to have an alternative vision.

{hello}
thank you for sharing all these amazing images, strawberry.
we will have a similar exhibition - if not the same one - here at haus der kunst in munich this spring and i hope to spend a lot of time with it.

hello :woot:

it's so brilliant in person, I was with a friend who's an artist with no interest in fashion & she was equally impressed.

thank you so much for sharing all of those photos, strawberry daiquiri! :woot:
