Rosso Confirms Martin Margiela no longer at the Maison

Maybe he can return to a bigger house like Hermès, though it won't be the same as an eponymous label :( And seeing that Diesel owns all aspects of the company (furniture, jewellery line, ...) it will be hard to start in those branches, at least under his own name. But I'm hopeful he'll find his own niche again

^that's what i hate most(apart from most everything really) about selling these lines...when you no longer own your label you no longer own your own name anymore. i dunno about hermès but i would love for him to continue doing his artisanal stuff.

Yes I don't see him fitting at Hermès anymore because that company has evolved (read: commercialised) a lot also, but something in those lines (I mentioned it because he did work there, as you probably will know :flower:). Not too big like say Dior, but a house with a rich tradition that doens't want to be too big. Can't think of one right now though

That is the best replacement for MMM heard so far. Love Jurgi Persoons. Love love Haider so would be happy with that too. But Persoons!

this is so sad bur on the other hand it was obvious of course that MM was no longer in charge, he maybe became "victim of his own success" as Helmut Lang once said.

a team no matter how great they are, they will never create clothes with the same vision, spirit and energy that MM had. ex Helmut Lang

I completely agree with the sentiments expressed in this thread by Zamb and Scott.

I haven't been a fan of the more recent MMM collections and perhaps MM's lack of involvement explains why.

I bought (and bought into) the brand because to me, MM was able to produce wearable pieces without compromising his vision. I found the approach and philosophy behind MMM to be intelligent and charming. At the end of the day he produced some great clothes that were enriched by genuine, sincere and original experimentation.

To me, Rosso's statement doesn't bode well for the future of MMM. What is left of MMM if it doesn't have its artistic integrity and a sense of innovation? I think MMM's core customer expects more that what was produced for S/S 2010. Ifeel like this will be similar to Helmut Lang, where the whole reason I was attracted to the brand was the designer and not simply the label.

At least the upcoming Rozzoli book will be a more fitting tribute to MM's legacy than Rosso was able to manage.

I was at a friend's home last night, and they were watching "Saturday Night Live" on TV. At the end of show, I saw this guy who seemed like a co-host of the show (my friend told me he's a well-known movie star originally from Canada, something like that, anyway I have almost no knowledge about these celebrity stuff, so I have really no idea how famous he is) wearing a basic red-coloured dress shirt (maybe on top of a pair of blue jeans, just the most uninspiring way of getting dressed), when he turned around and with his back facing toward the camera, I noticed those four white stitches instantly.

I guess that really says something about MMM at this moment, it has become the wardrobe choice of a mainstream movie star when he/she going to SNL to promote himself/herself. That being said, I do still find interesting pieces (wearable with a small amount of twist) from MMM in the stores. Whether the runway shows are still inspiring, that's a different story.

Very Funny, I sent a somewhat demanding e-mail to their press office asking if Margiela was still in the house just a couple of days ago...

The problem is that Margiela has built his appeal on using high concepts - and then translating them into purposeful, timely, and extremely chic clothes. Russo is grossly underestimating how much skill and how much of a singular vision that takes.

Despite that MMM has always been officially referred to as a "collective" it's no secret to anyone that Martin's own design direction was integral to their output. And let's say it weren't and that the team was perfectly capable of doing it on their own, they are taking direction from buyers and production lackeys at Diesel...there's a reason why some Margiela right now could easily be confused with Dsquared cast offs... not too hard to switch the labels around....

Definitely explains the recent collection. Definitely let a lot of MMM fans (like myself) down.

the d2 comparison is so spot-on! and unfortunately a shameful comparison for the maison. rosso will soon regret treating this label as if it were another banal deep pocket.

212....thinking more about persoons....i honestly don't think even he would accept such a position. especially seeing the way all of this has transpired and the suspicious underlying components involved....

going back to your sentiment caffeine....it makes one angry because all this time they mislead everyone into thinking he had actually still been there so meanwhile he we all are criticising and perceiving the latest works to be his.

I still like the men's collection but the last women collect. was outrageously awful. :yuk:

Everyone knew he was half-in,half-out anyway so it's better that they made things clear.

agree, the mens collection isnt all that bad, although it is becoming somewhat predictable and a tad stale. the blue ripple effect t shirts, rainwater-stained coats, barbed wired series are rather uninspiring although it still reminds one of margiela somehow (like an aftertaste?), which could well be made by his disciples or team from the maison. but with all due respect, they could very much be running out of ideas soon (2010 ss womens).

i totally couldnt believe it when i saw margiela came out with a phone strap with nothing but just the numerical logo:innocent:

I can't express anymore than what has already been said. Sadly, it's not completely unexpected. It's as bad as when Helmut resigned. I don't think anybody can quite continue the legacy that MM has created, especially when it is controlled by the most commercialized vision of Rosso.
